The suite was large and extremely clean with a separate bedroom and ample counter space in the bathroom. It was equiped with 2 flat screen tv's, a microwave, small fridge, coffee maker, iron & ironing board & complimentary bottles of water. Situated back from the road, it was very quiet at night & I slept very well in the comfy king bed. I didn't get a chance to check the excercise room or pool, but could see the large water slide through the window when driving in which I'm sure is a great enticement for families.
The staff were all very pleasant when you found them, but just weren't very service oriented. There never was anyone out at the front desk, they were in the back room & would eventually emerge after you had waited several minutes. I would suggest installing a one way window in the office so they can see when someone is at the counter or at least a bell to ring for service.
Though the rooms are kept spotless - the housekeepers are either oblivious to things that need replacing/ repairing, too busy to bother or the communication is just not being addressed by maintenance or management. It was inconvenient that the coffee maker was missing the centre part on the lid, so the basket just filled with water but with nothing pushing the spring up, the water couldn't pour into the carafe. Also the plug in the tub wouldn't stay up, so when showering, the water rapidly filled up in the tub. Fortunately the bars of soap are small & thin and I could wedge one under the plug to keep it up. I worked in hotels for many years and a good houskeeping department is trained to look for those things, report them so that they are fixed/replaced immediately.
This was the first time in many years that I didn't leave a few dollars for the housekeeper simply because of the oversights mentioned above not because she didn't do a superb cleaning job.
It's nice that they provide a breakfast buffet but nothing on it really appealed to me. I'm not keen on the rubbery type of scrambled eggs or muffins that taste like a sweet cake with lots of preservatives. Also it was hit & miss at the coffee station if you chose the thermos with hot coffee or the one with ice cold coffee. Not sure why they didn't take the cold ones away.
The bottom line: the product (rooms) are fairly new, very clean & comfortable. They have a good lay out, and everything you need. The hotel seems to cater mostly to long term male guests working temperarily in the area, so maybe that's why they are a bit out of touch with the standard of service that is expected from short term guests. However they are charging big city rates and should provide that level of service. I most likely will stay here the next time I'm in Grande Prairie because it is close to where I have to go and I did like the room. Perhaps my experience was just an unusual one off and I can give a better review after my next visit.
