This hotel has a great location in downtown GP. There are restaurants, stores, gas stations, grocery, bars etc nearby and it's located just off the main strip that heads to the airport.
When I checked in I was greeted by Jen, the on duty manager at the time. She seems to be an expert at making guests feel at home while staying here. She was laughing with guests, suggesting restaurants and things to do. Guests that walked by would go out of their way to talk to her and she did the same with them. I was vey impressed by how pleasant and personable she was. A perfect example of someone who works in the hospitality industry and REALLY gets it. People staying at hotels are sometimes very tired, stressed, anxious people because they are not in their home city with their beds and meals and routines. Being greeted by a professional person who is fast and efficient at check in and very helpful and pleasant makes a big impact on my impression of a hotel.
There is an attached Denny's and "Bar One" lounge and an Earl's in the same parking lot. I went to the Bar One for a late dinner and found the service and food to be good. It is a dark sports bar type of place serving the usual bar fare, no minors permitted.
The rooms are not newly renovated but they are comfortable. It was a cooler day in September that I was there but I assume they have problems cooling the place in the summer due to an instructional sign in the room titled "Keeping your room cool". The sign listed various ways to keep the temperature down including "closing the blinds". Sounds like they may have had a few complaints about overheated rooms before deciding to print those up. The only negative I experienced about this property is the proximity to the railroad tracks. My room backed on to the tracks which are without exaggeration, 150 feet from the building. A train rolled through blaring his horn frantically as if to alert a superhero to untie a damsel in distress. It was extremely loud and excessive. I closed the window when I went to bed and never heard another train all night. I am not sure if that was the last train, the next ones didn't blow their horn, or I just slept right through? Either way, I would stay at this hotel again for the staff and price, but if I were travelling with lighter sleepers(wife and kids) I might look elsewhere.
Room Tip: Not facing the train tracks. The only reason why I list location as "poor" is because it...
