“Have been here many times”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2010

I have stayed at this hotel numerous times for work mostly, but some leisure. The rooms are average, nothing to complain about. Cleaning crew has always been great, leaving a bottle of water and mints each day. It is right beside the casino if that is your thing. There is also a nice pub/restaurant located in the same parking lot. Close to shopping and other restaurants as well. Can get a little noisy at night when the pub lets out if you are facing it and have your window open. Waterslide and pool in building as well.

“Above and beyond service -- a rarity these days!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2010

I travel for work alot. I've stayed in hotels all over the continent -- every chain, every price level. As I travel, I grow increasingly frustrated with the lack of reasonable customer service available at hotels. Sometimes getting a smile from the staff seems like a difficult task. And then I found myself at the Service Plus Inn in Grande Prairie ...

I had both my wallets taken on this trip (one had credit cards, the other had cash). I have no ID, no credit cards, and no cash. As my office made arrangements to fax copies of my ID to the hotel, they suggested I ask the hotel for help. I was mortified to ask for such help. I felt like I sounded like a scam artist trying to get something for free. I was completly amazed by how quickly the hotel staff offered to help!!! I can recall instances in other hotels where I tried to get the password for their own inhouse wireless internet and it was like pulling teeth. Here I am at the Service Plus with no identity and they readily offer their help. It is actually sad how bad service had gotten elsewhere that i am now blown away to find two people that were only doing the decent and expected thing to do -- help a traveler in need.

Way to go, Service Plus! You can certainly stand by your name! You will always be tops in my book, and this will be the only place I stay on future trips to the area.

“average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2009

Stayed here as it was available when I did a last minute reservation. Staff was friendly, room was clean, bed comfortable enough to sleep. I was surprised it wasn't noisier, being located right beside the casino. Average continental breakfast. There are other hotels in GP in the same price range that I much prefer and offer a little higher quality. That being said, there was nothing wrong with the property, and I would stay there again if my preferences were full.
There is no restaurant in the hotel, but there is on across the parking lot, and several others close by. As well, there is a shopping area close to the hotel, including a grocery store, drug store, and cinemas.

“Absolutely Not Impressed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2009

Well, I'm glad we got the corporate rate, because I would have felt even more ripped off had we payed full price. This room was definitely not worth $150. I have to admit that my review is coloured by the fact that the waterslide and pool was closed. That's the only reason we brought our kids with us. We were there to attend a function at the restaurant next door, and would have left our teenagers home for the night had we known that they wouldn't be able to enjoy the pool and waterslide. I realize it was beyond the hotel's control (they had inspectors the very day before we arrived), and they couldn't inform us ahead of time, but there was absolutely no offer of a discount because of this. I could get a small room in another hotel, yes, in Grande Prairie, for two thirds of the price. I didn't mind paying the extra for the amenities. But when they are not available, we should have been offered something to lessen the blow.

As for the room, it was just a typical hotel room with two beds. There was one easy chair, and no table. The carpet was worn, the bathroom door had marks all around the door frame, and the night table also had chips out of it. Although there were four guests registered, they only had one bathrobe, three towels in the bathroom, and one tiny little bottle each of shampoo and conditioner. Certainly not enough for four people. They had a coffeemaker, but only one package of coffee. If you wanted more, you had to go to the front desk, which is the usual procedure, but then you had to pay $1 for it. I already overpaid for the room, I'm certainly not going to pay for extra coffee. Oh, and there were no stir sticks for the coffee. Don't know if we were supposed to use our fingers...? Maybe we had to pay extra for those as well.

I will say that the beds were comfortable, quite soft, and they had four pillows on each bed, which is always nice. Also, the air conditioner worked quite well.

The free breakfast left a lot to be desired. Their "NEW! Hot Items on the Menu!" were wimpy bacon, and powdered eggs. They had toaster waffles, bagels, and usual assortment of cereal, etc. The orange juice was a total joke. It was the colour of urine, and tasted horrible. The apple juice was a little better, but actually didn't have much taste at all. I guess I shouldn't complain, since it was free, but when you're spending that much money on a small room AND NO WATERSLIDE! you expect a little more from their 'deluxe' continental breakfast.

I will never reccomend this hotel to anyone, even if they rave about the location. There are other hotels in the general area that cost about the same, but are much nicer. And if you go a little further out, there are lovely hotels that cost far less.

“right beside the casino”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2008

My husband and myself stayed here for one night while having a christmas supper with his crew. We chose this hotel because of the location. Located in the same parking lot as the casino, with a great restaurant there also. We could walk from one to the other no problem. A newer hotel, reasonably clean, the bathtub needed a good scrub, with coffee and complimentary cornflakes and bagels in the am. However, the bed was awfully hard and the pillows so large and full that they were impossible to place under your head at all. Also the bedspreads are new but totally 80's. Who has bedspreads anymore? I would not stay again, unless the bed and bedding is upgraded.
