Well, I'm glad we got the corporate rate, because I would have felt even more ripped off had we payed full price. This room was definitely not worth $150. I have to admit that my review is coloured by the fact that the waterslide and pool was closed. That's the only reason we brought our kids with us. We were there to attend a function at the restaurant next door, and would have left our teenagers home for the night had we known that they wouldn't be able to enjoy the pool and waterslide. I realize it was beyond the hotel's control (they had inspectors the very day before we arrived), and they couldn't inform us ahead of time, but there was absolutely no offer of a discount because of this. I could get a small room in another hotel, yes, in Grande Prairie, for two thirds of the price. I didn't mind paying the extra for the amenities. But when they are not available, we should have been offered something to lessen the blow.
As for the room, it was just a typical hotel room with two beds. There was one easy chair, and no table. The carpet was worn, the bathroom door had marks all around the door frame, and the night table also had chips out of it. Although there were four guests registered, they only had one bathrobe, three towels in the bathroom, and one tiny little bottle each of shampoo and conditioner. Certainly not enough for four people. They had a coffeemaker, but only one package of coffee. If you wanted more, you had to go to the front desk, which is the usual procedure, but then you had to pay $1 for it. I already overpaid for the room, I'm certainly not going to pay for extra coffee. Oh, and there were no stir sticks for the coffee. Don't know if we were supposed to use our fingers...? Maybe we had to pay extra for those as well.
I will say that the beds were comfortable, quite soft, and they had four pillows on each bed, which is always nice. Also, the air conditioner worked quite well.
The free breakfast left a lot to be desired. Their "NEW! Hot Items on the Menu!" were wimpy bacon, and powdered eggs. They had toaster waffles, bagels, and usual assortment of cereal, etc. The orange juice was a total joke. It was the colour of urine, and tasted horrible. The apple juice was a little better, but actually didn't have much taste at all. I guess I shouldn't complain, since it was free, but when you're spending that much money on a small room AND NO WATERSLIDE! you expect a little more from their 'deluxe' continental breakfast.
I will never reccomend this hotel to anyone, even if they rave about the location. There are other hotels in the general area that cost about the same, but are much nicer. And if you go a little further out, there are lovely hotels that cost far less.
