“Average accommodations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I stayed here for 5 nights, check in was marginal at best, late arrival on sunday, -35*, rental car had a broken door, delayed international flights and no concern from the desk help. Not the way I wanted to start the trip. The pub was remodeling so not the ' pub' atmosphere, beer is real expensive. The hotel door keys had to reprogrammed every day, go to the room on the 4th floor, can't get in, go back down stairs and wait in line, go back upstairs and try to get in the room. They said it was my fault for keeping it next to my pen, cell phone, wallet, coat, car, etc.... No meal discounts, no happy hour, exercise room was below freezing. On the plus side, it is convenient and several eateries are very close by, a mall is next door, grocery across the parking lot, highway 63 at the intersection. The beds were comfortable, the water hot, the TV's large. If you are looking for basic accommodations this would be the place, cheaper them the Super 8, $159 CAD per night.

Room Tip: If you are looking for a place to sleep, this will be fine

It is too bad that your trip started off so poorly in Fort McMurray, but we are happy that you chose to stay with us at the Stonebridge.
To quickly address a few of your comments above, Bailey's pub is in fact under renovation with a temporary pub set up until mid February when Bailey's will re-open. The temporary pub is there to still accomodate those who wish to have a drink to unwind after work. Contrary to your comment above there is happy hour Monday - Saturday from 4pm - 8pm, and we provide 10% all food from Smitty's to all our guests. I am glad you enjoyed the location, beds, hot water and large brand new HD LED TV. We hope to have you back in the future so you can try out the newly renovated Bailey's pub and all it will have to offer.

“Great for Smokers”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

Suppose to be non-smoking. Hotel looked OK on internet but kind of dated once past lobby, could be a lot cleaner. Stairwell dirty, tears in gyproc in stairwell, halls are dingy, everything just leaves lots of room for improvement. Must admit nice sized flat screen TV (wish I had time to use it). First room had pile of bedding on floor. Staff seemed mildly annoyed at my complaint but did move me to another room. Had this experience once before in Saskatoon, recieved profound appologies and an upgrade. Definately a different attitude in management. Was moved to another room which was very smoky. Didn't feel complaining was worth it. Opened window turned on fan and went for dinner. Last time i was in Fort McMurray I stayed at the Radisson. I was hoping to save a few dollars coming here (and I did). Not worth it. I am not likely to stay here again.

The Stonebridge Hotel is a non-smoking hotel, and we went non-smoking on October 1, 2011. There has not been any smoking allowed in the rooms or the hotel since then and we have been working to clear any lingering smoke down the old smoking wing since then. Part of our process to complete this transition is the upgrade of the entire old smoking wing and its 38 rooms. New carpent, paint, furniture, showerheads, sinks, countertops, decor, etc will result in 38 new executive suites.
Once complete this upgrade will ensure that all lingering smoke smell is gone and that the 38 upgraded rooms provide a new, modern look and feel to our guests staying in that wing of the hotel.

“Hotel room...nope, cell blocks!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

I had the displeasure of staying at this hotel mid week while in town for a funeral. The cost was decent, but certainly not for what I got. The hotel claims that it has been recently updated, and it appeared that the lobby had been, but the rooms were not. The hotel also claimed that all rooms were non-smoking, and they may well be currently, but have not been in the past. There were burns to the carpet, furnishings, and around the sink in the bathroom. The bathrooms were barely passable for clean, and the coating of grime and dirt to the baseboards, around the electrical plugs and in corners was sufficient to turn my stomach. The mini fridge was not plugged in and contained 2 bottles of water, one of which was previously opened and nearly empty. The carpet was filthy, and the bathroom linens outdated and not fresh smelling.
The front desk staff were not conscious of the fact that while checking in there were many others standing in the lobby, and announced my room number out loud. Every left and returned to the hotel I had to have my key card rescanned at the front desk, as I was unable to get into my room.
I was able to hear not only conversations in the hallway, but the cell phone of the person in the room next to me. At 7am on the day of my departure there was an alarm of some type going off for close to 20 minutes. When I called the front desk to complain, they had no idea that there was an alarm sounding. They did however detrmine it's location and shut it off, nearly 30 mins after it started.
The front desk staff failed to ask me how my stay was, and I can only assume it was because they also know what a dive this hotel is. I couldn't wait to check out!

It is very unfortunate that you had this experience and feel this way about our hotel. We do everything we can to go over and above for our guests, including providing discounted rooms for berevemeant purposes, as we did for you when finding out you were up there for a funeral. The hotel, as we claim, is in the middle of going through upgrades, we started with upgrading all TVs and the wireless internet (which are both complete) and the upgrades are continuing in January with new carpet, paint, furniture, showerheads, countertops which is what we continue to claim. These upgrades on 38 rooms are being done on the side of the hotel that used to be smoking, before we went to non-smoking on October 1, 2011. The burns to the carpet and other areas are a driving factor to go to non-smoking and to also upgrade all of these rooms.
On each of our housekeeper's checklist for the rooms is to check the water and the temperature of the mini-frides, if this was missed on your room, again I sincerely apologize, but we do take steps to ensure this is checked for each room.
In a hotel, with rooms being so close, if an alarm is going off in one person's room, there is always a possibility that it can be heard next door; this happens frequently in all hotels. In order to give all guests proper privacy, we are not able to immediately go into a room to shut off a phone or clock alarm, and our staff did exactly what our policy's state. They attempted to locate which room the alarm was going off in, then attempted via phone and knocking on the door to alert the guest inside the room or to confirm if there is a guest in the room. When they are not able to get a hold of the guest, at that point they enter the room to shut off the alarm. Usually this takes about 5 minutes.
I again apologize for what you feel your stay was like with us, but can also guarantee that these are "one off" issues and not the norm for the Stonebridge Hotel. We are very excited about finalizing the room renovations in January 2012 which will solve many of the issues you have brought up, so I hope that you give us another chance, and stay with us; hopefully under better circumstances as you did the last time.

“Beautiful Linens”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

The hotel is obviously going through a renovation period, but the rooms are clean and the linens are white and crisp. The front desk staff were extremely friendly and the location is great.

“Good if you want to hear conversations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

I've stayed at this hotel a few times for business and the first time my room was right by the elevator. This was great if I wanted to hear conversations in the middle of the night of intoxicated people. For my next stay, I asked if they could put me in a room not close to the elevator and they put me in a room at the end of the hall by the stairs which again is great if you want to hear people talking. The staff try their best but you definitely see the difference in quality compared to other larger chain hotels. I did appreicate the restaurant in the hotel and I had good meals. The casino is across the parking lot and just be cautious when making the short walk.

With recent new ownership we are now continuing the renovations throughout the rest of the hotel in order to fix the issues you have brought up. We have also recently purchased 46" LED HD TVs for each room in the hotel, and have already installed over half of them, with the remianing to be completed shortly.
Please check back with us next time you are up in Fort McMurray.
