“underpayed employees and it shows here!”

Just wanted to write a quick reveiw as i stay at this hotel on a reg.basis on buisness. (Fort Mcmurray location)). The outside is really nice and welcoming, so is the inside, Allways having problems though with the showers and internet and cable television, so not impressed with these features, and every time i stay at this hotel its allways in a different room and its allways the same issues in every room..A/C is another problem, the newer units work fine but theres still older units in some rooms and they are plain junk, they smell, are noisy and most times do not work at all!..The pool and hottub is allways down or broken or being played and screwed with by some old guy ( nice guy but must get bored )...and i find with housekeepers and especially maintenance they are so underpayed and they dont mind telling this to guests either..1 maintenance guy (mike, if i remember correctly his name) swears way too much and smells really bad!.For the price this hotel charges for stay and food , you would think they would pay their employees alot better so they wouldnt be so disgusted with their job, and saying so when asked about it during conversation with them.. Also picked up on the fact that they really dont like their maintenance manager very much...seems he dosnt treat them very well.but aside from all this my wife and i do enjoy staying here, i spend around 110 days a year in hotels and ive been to every hotel in Fort Mcmurray and this 1 seems to be the best 1 out of them all tho!. overall!

Room Tip: 3 floor wings are better it seems

Dear Dave C:
I appreciate you taking the time to write your review and also that you continue to stay at our hotel. We have undertaken several major up-grade projects this year including a complete renovation/refurbishment of the last 132 guestrooms, with the exception of the bathrooms, which will be redone commencing in January. We up-graded our wireless internet & hot water systems and early in the New Year, we will be renovating/refurbishing public areas including the lobby, lounge and function rooms. The replacement of older A/C units is on-going and should be completed by mid June.

I would be pleased to hear of the specific difficulties you encounter with the internet & the showers, in order that I review how best to resolve them. Please feel free to email me at psnook@sawridge.com.

Thank you once again and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

“Mixed emotions”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

I only spent one night at the Sawridge Fort McMurray and found the room to be quiet, the bed very comfortable, pillows were great also. The shower did start to squeal 3/4 of the way through my shower. The down side is that it is in the industrial area so there is not a lot to do close (within a couple of blocks of) the hotel.

There is an exercise room but very small. They do not have a mat where you can do stretching or floor exercises, and they do not have anything to wipe down the equipment after you're done.

The pool is small and the hot tub is a jacuzzi tub similar to one you would purchase and put in your backyard, both in the open courtyard.

Ate the Fish & Chips in the bar and it was very good.

One encounter with front desk staff was good, the next person, not so good. The good, I called to ask about the water in the room and the lady offered me a cold water if I wanted to come get it. Staff were surprised when I did this! The not so good. My place of business was 1.6 KM towards the airport down the same street the hotel is on. I asked if the shuttle would drop me off. The front desk needed to check. Later advised me yes they would drop me off and told me the shuttle was at 8:30 AM. I must admit I was rushing to make 8:30 but I got to the front right at 8:30 AM by their clock time and mine but she advised me they already left. Said there were 3 ppl for the airport (airport is 8 min drive) so they left. Thus, I walked the 1.6 KM with suitcase in tow!

Okay for one night but for long term.

“Excellent value, accomodation, location and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2011

We stayed at the Sawridge Inn in Fort McMurray as a precusor to the Oil Sands Tour and were delighted with the hotel; its proximity (across the street!) to the Oil Sands Discovery Center; and the great service.
We had a fantastic dinner in the hotel restaurant and loved the breakfast buffets.

“Non smoking rooms smell pretty darned smoky”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 April 2011

I have stayed at this hotel several times the past few years, usually because meetings are in the hotel. I really like the look of the outside and it is very nicely decorated with Native artwork; gorgeous. The reception staff has greatly improved over the past year or so, as they used to have a rather unfriendly attitude. The breakfast buffet is the best meal here. I've had less luck ordering meals from the menu.
This time, I was very disappointed that the business class NON-smoking 3rd floor room smelled so badly of stale smoke. As soon as I walked into the wing of the hotel in fact, the smoky smell was obvious. Either this wing was only recently converted to non-smoking, or customers just ignore the fact that the rooms are non-smoking. Also this time, staff were very loudly doing some sort of work in the hall way, talking loudly and slamming doors, and this was at 10:00 pm! After about an hour, thank goodness, they stopped and I got a decent sleep.
