“Nice to have a suite, but rooms getting dated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We have stayed at this hotel in the past and found that our experience this time was about the same as in the past. We had a standard suite, and appreciate the space and kitchen for our family. We also like the location close to downtown. We have noticed that the rooms are getting dated and several pieces of furniture in our room were on the verge of collapse - coffee table and dresser in bedroom (remnants of the 70's). We also found that several bulbs were burned out in light fixtures. It would be great if Coast followed it's environmental policy and switched over to CFL's and also installed low flow toilets. At least it had recycling bins in the room and refillable bottles of shampoo in the bathroom.

“Meeting all your needs”

Lets start off by saying this building began its life as an apartment complex some 40+ years ago. The building is a little worn around the edges, but what you get from the Edmonton House will far and away beat what you will find anywhere else.
Since it is a converted apartment building, every room is a suite and has a kitchen. For those of us who spend lots of time away from home, we appreciate how nice it is to not watch television, eat, sit and sleep in the same bed that you would at most hotels. You also have a balcony with great views of either the river valley or downtown. Sure, the decor isn't exciting, but it does have a homey feel and that is more important to me when I'm on the road.
If I'm going to compare the hotel to home, I'm going to compare the front desk staff to mom. If you need something, they are there to help. Not twenty minutes into my stay, the front desk called to see if everything was acceptable in my room. The next morning when I called to say I'd found cigarette butts on the balcony of my non-smoking room, they offered to change rooms for me immediately. Where in your travels have you ever heard of that kind of service? My point being, if you find something wrong with your room, don't complain on tripadvisor before you call down to front desk. In fact, be a responsible guest and inform front desk if you find something in your room needing maintenance.
Now, on top of all the creature comforts of home, you'll also find a well maintained pool and fitness room, a small convenience store on the mezzanine that is open until 10 pm, a hotel shuttle and wonderful shops and dining experiences within a couple of blocks of your room. I have access to all this, a king size bed in my suite and, if I book my stay online, I pay $89.00 a night on weekends. I say I get way more than what I pay for.
Finally, this is to the management of Edmonton house. On several of my stays, I've had the the distinct pleasure of dealing with Gloria at the front desk. I can't begin to describe how helpful, responsible and personable she has been with me. She genuinely makes me feel like I am a guest and I could easily write a review about her alone.

“The rooms that Allow dogs look cleans.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We Got a good deal for this rooms with hotel.com, for a 1 bed room suit. The dogs right away could smell other dogs and would not stop smelling the chair and couch legs, They had 6 accidents there in the room and our dogs dont have inside accidents. Needless to say when we checked out they gave us our deposit and did not check room. and probaly did not clean it either.. Great views tho.

“You get what you pay for.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

The building is downtown and offers some very nice views when facing south. The parkade is a little tricky to enter and exit and some levels have stairs to the elevator which can be a little challenging with luggage.

Upon arrival I was given a room on the 10th floor. The décor was dated and dingy which is what I was expecting for the price range. The sofa however, was beyond dingy. It was covered in stains, holes and rips. I phoned down to the front desk and explained I was unhappy with the room because of the sofa. I explained that I knew they had recently done renovations and I asked if an updated room was available. Front desk said they would have to call me back. A few minutes later they did call back and said they were sending up keys for my new room on the 21st floor. The room was the same dated, dingy décor but the sofa was much better so I was happy. I get the feeling that they aren’t very interested in going the extra mile when you book through a 3rd party web site such as Expedia or Priceline but I kind of assumed this going in.

My overall stay was good. The room was clean and quiet, the pool was fun for my son and the staff were always friendly. You get what you pay for and for the $75/night I paid I feel I got a fair deal. I can’t say for sure I would stay here again unless a good deal was available.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing south if you want a nice view.

“Excellent for long term stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

The kitchenette in most rooms is a great bonus at this hotel, plus decent exercise room and indoor pool. Awesome views of the city if you get one of the upper rooms. Staff is very friendly and helpful, especially Gloria!
