I travel fairly regularly to Edmonton on business. The hotel I usually stay at (Marriott Casino) does not provide plug-ins for vehicles, and with overnight low temperatures at -35C, I decided to try something different.
This Sandman is not that old (less than 5 years for sure) and I thought it would fit my needs perfectly.
THE PROS:
It is a very new hotel, and is decorated in a very contemporary fashion. The lobby is very nice, and the staff were very attentive. The rooms are clean, and very comfortable and spacious. My room had a King bed (very comfortable), a small kitchenette, and a separate sitting room/workspace with free high-speed internet access. There were 2 flat screen TV's (but no in room movies). When I first walked in I was very impressed. I reported a burnt out light in my bathroom and it was replaced by the time I returned from dinner.
THE CONS:
In spite of how new the hotel is, it seems that it has not been well taken care of in it's short lifespan. The carpets had begun to fray; the wallpaper in the bathroom had started to peel; the quartz countertops in the kitchenette were stained and scratched. In short, it just seemed like the preventive maintenance hadn't been kept up. Also, when I pulled the sliding door between the kitchen and bedroom closed, there were yellow drip marks running down the door, so apparently the cleaning staff missed that part.
My room was on the fourth floor of the hotel, and it very very hot, in spite of the frigid temperatures outside. I found that I actually had to turn on the air conditioning in order to get to a comfortable sleeping temperature. Between the warm temperature and the traffic noise outside, I didn't get a great night sleep.
FINAL ANALYSIS:
I would probably stay here again, but would sincerely hope that the management will get busy with some basic preventive maintenance.
