“Unsanitary....”

It was a nightmare. I first realized this place was no good when the staff were nothing but rude on the phone. We got to the hotel and we had booked a non smoking room... We opened the door to the room and it smelled like an old bar!. they were ash trays on the table burns in the bedside table, and the bedding. I went down to the office to tell them about this and they assured me that it was a NON SMOKING ROOM!. I told them we needed to be moved, they said there were no rooms avail. The room had a lamp haning off the wall by a wire,a plug in space heater to heat the room, microwave was dirty, toilet ran all night, one small garbage can, dirty in all corners, walls had food stuck on them, shower taps were not labelled, phone did not work, there was a train that went by behind the hotel at all hours of the night that vibrated the beds.

“First Econo Lodge experience, wished I spent the extra $ at a Holiday Inn”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

My girlfriend and I stopped in Edmonton to catch a baseball game and decided to stay at the Econo Lodge. This was the first time that either of us stayed at an Econo Lodge and we found our experience to be a little interesting.

For starters, it's not in the best location. There were alot of sketchy people hanging around outside and I worried about the condition my car would be in the next morning.

We walked up about three sets of outdoor stairs to get to our room and when we opened the door we were far from impressed. The carpet was FILTHY (I actually borrowed a pair of my girlfriend's socks because I was worried I'd catch athlete's foot or some kind of foot fungus). When I tried to shut the curtains the entire rod fell to the floor. The bathroom was dirty and I didn't want to step inside the bathtub, nevermind bathe or shower in it. The beds were disgusting and I was very tempted to sleep fully clothed on top of the blankets. I didn't notice any bedbugs but the bedding needed to be cleaned. I spent the entire night wondering how many prostitutes and seedy drifters had been in that bed.

When I woke up the next morning I thought about making a cup of coffee... until I discovered a hair in the coffee maker. The remote was sticky. I was genuinely embarrassed to bring my girlfriend to this hotel. I knew it wasn't going to be nearly as nice as the Delta hotel that we stayed in the night before but I didn't think it would be THAT bad. Lesson learnt.

Pros:
-the staff was polite

Cons:
-see the 3 paragraphs above.

Do not stay here, do yourself a favor and spend the extra $30-$40 and go to a Best Western, Holiday Inn, etc.

“Low price but maybe not in the best part of town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2010

When we arrived in Edmonton we headed to what we thought was the centre of the City and saw the Econo Lodge and the 99 dollar a night sign. The room was clean and the staff were friendly but when we went out at night we realised it was more a business district and there were however a lot of people hanging about on street corners close to the Hotel.

The facilities in the Hotel are what you would expect for a hotel in this price range

“A true Dump”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2009

The Internet was a problem. They gave me smoking rooms when I ask for non smoking. The room smelled bad. I lost money in the washer and they would not give it back and the worst was the cleaning people who forced me out of my room before the 11:00 check out because that was the last room for them on my floor. They opened the door twice and then went some place and call and ask was I checking out. I was pissed.
