“Very rude”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I just checked out of the econo lodge on gateway blvd in Edmonton and all I can say is wow!! I checked in there after spending a month up north in the bush working so I will admit I was not in the greatest mood., but wow...I got there and told them my company had reserved me a room there and the lady said that the card on file had expired and the new number was being faxed in by my company in five minutes, so I would have to wait to get a room. When I was told there was no public washroom I had to say well just give me my room now as my company had account anyway and they were just waiting on a new number, I had to use the washroom bad, so they gave me a room. Then when I got to the room it was dirty old, the usual, bed sunk when you sat on it COLD. I phoned down to find out if they had an electric heater or a different room where the heat worked better, he yelled "what is it you want" so I raised my voice and said "an electric heater" so he goes on about why am I yelling at him, when he was the one who got me going and then told me they had no electric heaters and if I don't like it I should leave. So now I was mad, I went down to the front desk and continued mybconversation with this extreamly rude man, finally turns out they have a heater after five minutes of trying to come this guy down (shoulda just left) I got a heater...fml.
Anyways I spent the night, slept in my clothes lol and decided to check out and to elsewhere. I told myself id be polite and get in and out of their office. It all happened again when I asked what the bill would be. I was told that I wasn't paying and that I didn't need to know, then she started going on about how I was rude asking for a bathroom when I first checked in wtf. "You don't like indian faces" she said. Like come on give me a break, such rude people and then telling me I was the social problem. F that I don't need it. Oh ya I liked when she got on the phone to call my office...priceless...like they give a &$#@...I know now from reading other reviews that they really are the problem

Staff made you fell very unwelcome. No people skills. If you asked a question they argued with you. Cleanliness is poor. Will never stay again, even for free

“It was a bad experience...Definitely won't come back again !!”

The floor was dirty and the bathroom was slippery. Water temperature was unstable during shower. WiFi internet signal was weak and unstable, got disconnected quite often. Furniture looked cheap and room was small. Breakfast tables were actually in front of the front desk.Parking spots were narrow. The only good thing was a cheaper rate compared to other places.
NOT RECOMMENDED !!

“Unsanitary....”

It was a nightmare. I first realized this place was no good when the staff were nothing but rude on the phone. We got to the hotel and we had booked a non smoking room... We opened the door to the room and it smelled like an old bar!. they were ash trays on the table burns in the bedside table, and the bedding. I went down to the office to tell them about this and they assured me that it was a NON SMOKING ROOM!. I told them we needed to be moved, they said there were no rooms avail. The room had a lamp haning off the wall by a wire,a plug in space heater to heat the room, microwave was dirty, toilet ran all night, one small garbage can, dirty in all corners, walls had food stuck on them, shower taps were not labelled, phone did not work, there was a train that went by behind the hotel at all hours of the night that vibrated the beds.

“First Econo Lodge experience, wished I spent the extra $ at a Holiday Inn”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

My girlfriend and I stopped in Edmonton to catch a baseball game and decided to stay at the Econo Lodge. This was the first time that either of us stayed at an Econo Lodge and we found our experience to be a little interesting.

For starters, it's not in the best location. There were alot of sketchy people hanging around outside and I worried about the condition my car would be in the next morning.

We walked up about three sets of outdoor stairs to get to our room and when we opened the door we were far from impressed. The carpet was FILTHY (I actually borrowed a pair of my girlfriend's socks because I was worried I'd catch athlete's foot or some kind of foot fungus). When I tried to shut the curtains the entire rod fell to the floor. The bathroom was dirty and I didn't want to step inside the bathtub, nevermind bathe or shower in it. The beds were disgusting and I was very tempted to sleep fully clothed on top of the blankets. I didn't notice any bedbugs but the bedding needed to be cleaned. I spent the entire night wondering how many prostitutes and seedy drifters had been in that bed.

When I woke up the next morning I thought about making a cup of coffee... until I discovered a hair in the coffee maker. The remote was sticky. I was genuinely embarrassed to bring my girlfriend to this hotel. I knew it wasn't going to be nearly as nice as the Delta hotel that we stayed in the night before but I didn't think it would be THAT bad. Lesson learnt.

Pros:
-the staff was polite

Cons:
-see the 3 paragraphs above.

Do not stay here, do yourself a favor and spend the extra $30-$40 and go to a Best Western, Holiday Inn, etc.
