I don't know what I was thinking not doing my research before I booked here, but I had a workshop to attend in the hotel so it seemed a no-brainer to stay onsite the night before. I booked via the hotel's site and noted the option to upgrade to a west-facing room but made an assumption that it was all about getting a better view. I would be arriving around midnight so that wasn't terribly important to me.
Oops.
To say the train is loud is an understatement. Luckily for me, I was six floors up and turning on the heater/air conditioner fan provided enough white noise that I was able to sleep a couple of hours before the train became impossible to ignore.
For the life of me, I can't figure out how the hotel gets any guests at all with the industrial trainyard being right there, but there you have it.
Having said all that, the buffet breakfast was pretty decent, the staff were fine and the renovated bits looked wonderful. You won't necessarily be miserable here, and if you can avoid the train you may even enjoy it.
