“Heavy on price, light on performance”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2007

-- Room is $80
-- Priced way beyond quality
-- Second class dorm-quality furniture
-- Only the bare essentials beyond TV
-- $10 extra charge for fridge
-- No fridge, no microwave
-- Feels like a dormitory room, very small
-- Cheap appointments like bedclothes
-- TV does not allow for portable video players
-- Telephone has missing pieces
-- Breakfast not included
-- No plastic liner for ice bucket
-- Bathroom actually a nice design, better design than bedroom
-- Sink drips
-- No grabber in shower
-- In-window A/C unusable when curtains closed, you can not have air conditioning and privacy
-- Air conditioner makes a loud rumble
-- Cigarette burns and not room for much else on nightstand

“Never, Ever Again”

My fiancee and I stayed in a jacuzzi suite back in Feb 2007. The room "looked" amazing with one BIG problem. Among the flower pedals that were laid out on the bed my fiancee found a large
2 1/2' sewing pin. Moments before I had been lying on the bed, in that same spot. Out of sheer luck the pin did not stick me. We brought it to the attention of the staff and were later told that they fired the person who did our room (for other reasons aside from this one). Although we had one employee who was very empathic and understanding, the persons of hire management weren't as understanding. One acknowledged that it was brought to her attention on the morning shift but blamed the night shift for not notifying her (explaining that they should have handled it). We recieved a "very" smal discount and were basically pushed aside. If that's not poor customer service, I don't know what is.

“Never again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2007

Stayed here for a week, as all the other hotels in Edmonton were fully booked.

First problem is that there is no iron or ironing board in the rooms. You have to request one, I've never heard of this in modern hotels.

Second problem - The TV picture would fade in and out making it unbearable to watch.

Third problem, on my second day there, the maid had cleaned the room but did not leave any fresh towels. She left a message to say that she had run out of towels and would return later. I went out and returned later that night, but there was no towels when I arrived.

Fourth and final problem was the smell of cigarette smoke coming through the bathroom vent. I asked if there were any other non-smoking rooms available, but there wasn't. The front desk said that they would have someone look at the ventilation, but this never happened. I ended up closing the bathroom door and putting towels at the base of the door to stop the smoke coming into the main room.

I would like to write something nice about this hotel, but nothing springs to mind. I did leave my thoughts with the hotel management and they wrote to me saying that they would be renovating soon.

Would I stay here again? Only if every other hotel in Edmonton was booked, and even then, I would look further out into the suburbs.

  • Liked — It was one of the last remaining rooms available in Edmonton, now I know why.
  • Disliked — Smelling cigarette smoke in a non-smoking room.

“Nice hotel, a bit pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2006

A really nice hotel with great amenities. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The hotel staff are friendly and effecient. The only downside with this hotel is it is way out from the town centre (half hour bus ride to town center, one hour to WEM), and it costs 60 dollars for a taxi from the airport. Also, if you're at the rear of the hotel be prepared for the construction site view as they are currently building a restaurant there in the coming weeks.

  • Liked — Cleanliness
  • Disliked — location
  • Tips/Secrets — Edmonton town center is like a ghost town on the weekends. Head for the WEM.

We arrived late - around 2am....Very tired, all we wanted was a bed!!! Ian at the Front Desk was great at checking us in. The housekeeping staff was marvelous! Our room was very clean & well maintained. The staff in Prospectors were also friendly. We could not have asked for a better stay! Wish we could have stayed longer - we will be back!
