After a long flight into calgary we wanted to find some place close to the airport to sit down and relax for the night. we entered the lobby of the sandman which was very clean and stylish. That was where the clean ended. After handing over $250.00 for the one night and one bed, we headed up to the room, got in the first elevator which didnt work so we went back to the front desk only to be told we were putting the card in backwards, lets be honest how hard is it to put the card in the slot, not rocket science. back to the elevator again to see that yes, it doesnt work. finally the second elevator dropped someone off at the lobby and we jumped in and up we went. We reached the 4th floor which smelt like someone had died several days prior to our arrival. thus back to the lobby to switch rooms or floors or whatever would get us away from the STINK. turns out while the young lady next to us at the front desk got a room right away while walking in, there was no where for us to switch to. So back up we went after waiting 10 minutes for the elevator to drop someone off again. Into our room we went which seemed to have condensed the stink into its purest form. Thank goodness there was some febreeze in the car or we wouldnt have been able to handle it. After doucing the room in air freshner we left the room as my girlfriend couldnt take it anymore. All I can say is this place was the biggest dump I have ever stayed at and will never return and i wish this experience on no one!!!!!!! Sleeping in your car will provide a much better experience.

WHAT A DUMP

Nice hotel & service, obviously far from downtown. Food service not as part of the hotel.

This is a pleasant hotel, nicely furnished rooms, quiet neighbourhood, pleasant staff. Lots of parking, and a restaurant / bistro attached to the property.

Internet (wired and wireless) is free, but can sometimes be sluggish.

The hotel offers smoking rooms (one wing of the fourth floor), which is quite a rarity for Calgary.

All in all, a good place, I would happily return.

I have stayed at the Acclaim a few times and this time decided to try the Sandman near the airport. It was OK but the rooms at the Acclaim were way nicer for the same cost. It is now 20 min to the airport and they charge $5.00 per person to use their shuttle. The shuttle was clean and good driver. Overall this hotel was average, nothing special.
