“Close to downtown and offers a great pancake breakfast”

This HI is in a strange area as there seems to be a lot of construction work and car parks! However, it's only a short walk to downtown so no major issue.

We had a private double with ensuite which was big, clean and comfortable. The staff are really friendly and the price includes a great self-serve breakfast including do it yourself pancakes which are delicious!

All in all a good bet, just a shame about the immediate area.

“good service and facility, very friendly and helpful front-desk staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

The location is great - in downtown Calgary, only 3 minutes by walk to C-train's city hall station. The service and facility are good - free coffee, free breakfast, pc and internet in the main floor (with very reasonable fee), shower, flashlight, etc. The front-desk staff (Danny, a guy from Quebec) is very friendly and helpful. They also orginize trip and activity at low costs. I feel it is like a home away from home.

The room price is very reasonable. Ask for a dorm room with bunk bed to stay if you have a low-budget. Apply and use the Hostelling International card for a discount. You can also use that card for a discount on greyhound ticket.

Overall, I had a very good experience staying in HI-Calgary city centre. Thank you to folks who work there.

“Great Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

I flew into Calgary for a weekend to take in the city and attend the Calgary tattoo convention.
- The location was great, just on the edge of downtown. A block away from the LRT.
- Very friendly atmosphere, lots of people around
- No roudy guests, I was never disturbed by thumping, crashing or banging. Quiet at night.
- Excellent TV & games room. It was a great way to relax at the end of the day
- despite what other people said, I thought the showers were great. Spacious, clean, great water pressure. Room for all of my stuff. Free towels from front reception.
-I didn't take advantage of it, but they have GREAT kitchen facilities and large fridges to store food.
- they have storage facilites for your baggage, which was nice since I had to check out at 11am and didn't fly home until 9pm
- staff were very nice

Downsides:
- I could feel the springs in the bed, so it didn't make for the best sleep
- personally wasn't a fan of the free breakfast. Would have enjoyed a few more fruit options and some cereal.

NOTE: if your flying into the city and don't want to pay $8.00 to take the #300 bus into the city take the #100 bus to the McKnight-Westwinds CTrain Station. It costs $2.75, just make sure to get a transfer when you get on the #100. From McKnight-Westwinds, take the CTrain to City Hall station. Walk East 2 blocks and your at the hostel.

Room Tip: They assign bunk numbers, so if you have a preference as to top or bottom bunk, ask for that when bo...
