“Love this grand old hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

In conjuction with an evening function at the Fairmont Palliser's Crystal Ballroom, we opted to stay the night.

We were able to secure a 3 pm check-in. There was plenty of registration parking while we unloaded, more staff than guests at the front desk, and lots of polite helpful folks to welcome us. Check-in took 3 minutes (or less?). Our room was at the north end of the west corridor: overlooking the entrance street. We never heard a train, unlike a previous stay when we overlooked the tracks.

As this is an old hotel with central heating, the farther down the heating pipes you are, the colder the room. We never really were able to override the chill. If we had been staying longer, or in colder weather, we would have requested a room change. WiFi was not working, even after 4 calls to the internet help desk. Again, if that was important, a room change would have been necessary. The room  was comfortable, with a large flat screen TV and plenty of lights.

We ordered room service for appetizers prior to our event. It was delivered within 10 minutes. Efficiently, politely, delicious.

Check-out was just as easy as check-in had been ..... loading zone empty, helpful and polite staff.

We love the historic flavour of this grand old hotel, and appreciate the renovations to include modern conveniences. Fairmont employees are an effective team. We'll be back again in January 2013.

“Palliser, original”

This hotel is reminiscent of the Grand old Hotels. Built in 1914 and named after an explorer named Palliser, it was a stop on the Railways route to Banff. Owned by the Canadian Pacific Hotels, the grandeur of this early hotel chain is a pleasure. Suites are well appointed as they are in all Fairmont Hotels. The service in the restaurant reminded one of the days of fine silver and elegant service with a good cup of coffee kept filled and fresh. Linen serviettes and tablecloths are standard fare. The decor, however, is relaxing and we found this to be our favourite place to go within the hotel. The spaces are large but comfortable and it is possible to dine without close proximity to your neighbours. You will find that the trains rumble by through downtown cowtown and remind one that the railway was interwoven into the very fabric of Canadian history.

“It is the little things that matter”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We spent one night in Calgary and wanted to stay at the Fairmont Palliser due to the location. It is located closed to everything you need in Calgary.
Arrival was no problem. We dropped the car off at the Valet Service and checked in. All this was uneventful and smooth.
We had the room on the third floor and once we came around the corner to "our hallway" we saw a cart with food and a spare bed in the hallway. So we passed it thinking it was cleaning time and everything would be gone shortly. Well, the food was taken around 8 PM (we checked in at noon) and the bed stayed in front of our room the whole night and when we checked out at noon the next day it greeted us as well. Not very nice to look at.
The room itself was nice and big. No seperate shower in the bathroom, but that was OK.
The bed was not comfortable. It was soft and the sheets came off way to easy once you moved.
The A/C in the room does not have enough power for the big room.
Checkout was no problem.
When the Valet brought us our car he wanted to give the lady next to us the key as she was there first and he did not thing that we owned/rented a nice car like that. I walked up and wanted to say thanks and he said "This is not your car, I will get that later". Well it was and I did not like the attitude.
We had room service as well and the food was excellent. It was fresh and tasted great. We had to wait for 40 minutes but we where told that it would take that long when we ordered and it was well worth the wait!

Thank you for choosing to stay at The Fairmont Palliser during your recent visit to Calgary. We are pleased to hear that your arrival and departure were seamless and that you enjoyed our In-Room Dining cuisine, as well as the location of our hotel. We regret to learn that the state of the corridor and your valet experience were less than exceptional, and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience either may have caused you. I can assure you that this is not our standard and these matters have been addressed with the appropriate teams. We sincerely appreciate your feedback and look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back in the future.

The hotel is beautiful, beds very comfortable and conveniently located in downtown Calgary. The menu for the 24 hour room service was fabulous - I had the best clubhouse I have ever tasted! This is a hotel that I will definitely come back to.

Was a big worried that i would felt underdressed in my winterboots and big downjacket, but no problem at all, everyone feels accepted. The rooms were so charming, and didnt lack anything .
Will definately comeback if in Calgary!!!
