In conjuction with an evening function at the Fairmont Palliser's Crystal Ballroom, we opted to stay the night.
We were able to secure a 3 pm check-in. There was plenty of registration parking while we unloaded, more staff than guests at the front desk, and lots of polite helpful folks to welcome us. Check-in took 3 minutes (or less?). Our room was at the north end of the west corridor: overlooking the entrance street. We never heard a train, unlike a previous stay when we overlooked the tracks.
As this is an old hotel with central heating, the farther down the heating pipes you are, the colder the room. We never really were able to override the chill. If we had been staying longer, or in colder weather, we would have requested a room change. WiFi was not working, even after 4 calls to the internet help desk. Again, if that was important, a room change would have been necessary. The room was comfortable, with a large flat screen TV and plenty of lights.
We ordered room service for appetizers prior to our event. It was delivered within 10 minutes. Efficiently, politely, delicious.
Check-out was just as easy as check-in had been ..... loading zone empty, helpful and polite staff.
We love the historic flavour of this grand old hotel, and appreciate the renovations to include modern conveniences. Fairmont employees are an effective team. We'll be back again in January 2013.
