Check in was incredibly fast and easy. The service of the staff was great. From our cab being received out front to the concierge telling us what meetings I could walk to and what meetings I needed a cab for.

My biggest knock was that their hotel dining room wasn't open while I was there. I don't have much time to go exploring around the city so I very much count on inhouse meal options but I was limited to the lobby bar.

With that being said, I finished my evening at the lobby bar and received terrific service from that team. He was able to recommend local beers based on my tastes and even when the bar was super busy he made it to my table to get me another.

I would stay here again but would make a point of figuring out where some good restaurants are in the area so I don't get caught off guard when their's never opens.

Some hotels just exude a great feeling or personality that they truly feel like a home-away-from-home, or like the kind of place that you really look forward to coming back to.

Not this Marriott.

It's all fine -- but everything is just kind of blah. The look is totally plain - just a generic 'hotel' look that could be in any city anywhere in the world. The service is OK -- we were never impressed with it, nor did we ever have any problems.

I prefer the Westin (which has that cool Westin feeling and look to it -- that I love), the Sheraton Eau Claire (great hotel in a great location) or the Hyatt (cool interior architecture and a look that really seems to reflect western Canada).

Our only real problem we experienced here at the Marriott: room service shuts down at midnight, at which point there is absolutely zero availability of food at this place. If you arrive late, pack a snack -- they won't have anything to serve you here, nor did the front desk offer to help me find something. (This all seems odd for a massive hotel in a downtown location.)

We were taking a family trip to calgary on the way back from BC, but valet parking was not available because the height of the roof rack was above 6' 6". Because of this, we were forced to park in a unsecured downtown open lot. So we had to get up at 5:30 am to feed the meter so we would not be ticketed.

This was not a particularly family friendly hotel. It was expensive, small rooms with 2 double beds (not queens) and 2 rollaways would not fit. breakfast was also not included. a kids movie from the on demand service cost $15.00, and breakfast for 4 cost $80.00. All in all, this downtown hotel is better suited for a business traveler with an expense account. on the up side, the rooms were well insulated and quiet.

I stayed here for 2 nights in December. The check in staff were very friendly and the concierge out front was very attentive and friendly. The rooms are well done and clean. There is a starbucks in the lobby, a milestones restaurant attached, a great lobby bar and a decent hotel restaurant on the 2nd floor, with a great buffet breakfast. This hotel is located across the street from the Calgary tower and right on Stephen Ave, the pedestrian street, which gives you many restaurant, shopping and pub choices within walking distance. I love this hotel ,and will likely make it my usual hotel in downtown Calgary.
