“Nothing Special, Truck Stop Atmosphere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

Had to stay here as all hotels were booked downtown. The hotel is right next to the Trans Canada Highway, with balcony views of the ski jump towers of Olympic Park + highway in between. The direct area of the hotel has the charm of a truck stop: another budget hotel close by, a gas station, a liquor store and some fast food restaurants and odd shops in the middle of nowhere. But the hotel is clean, even if non fancy, and provides free WiFi and free coffee in the morning. Everything else is absolute basic (think Econolodge, Quinta Inn), which is ok if this is what you're looking for.

BTW: For those heading to downtown in the morning: If you leave after 7.15am your drive time increases to 45mins from 20mins .

“Pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2010

One of my favourite Calgary hotels, and although the location is often not convenient for my stays in Calgary, on this occassion it was so I stayed two nights. Beds were very comfortable, the free wi-fi worked very well, and front desk staff were efficient and courteous. Breakfast buffet was pretty standard fare, but good quality. Will very likely stay there again.

“Great location, close to Calaway Park, but small rooms. Great for families.”

We choose this hotel as we spent a weekend in Calgary with families and friends. We had plans to go to Calaway Park, Calgary Zoo, and shopping. Hotel is located right across from Canada Olympic Park, thus it was right on 16 Ave. It took us 10mins to get to Calaway Park, and also 10 mins to Market Mall. We travelled with 2 other families and there children. Rooms are small and there are some rooms that have a sitting area. Rooms had a microwave and small frig. The pool is good for kids as it is only about 3 ft, pool water was nice and warm so the kids weren't freezing. There is one water slide which is good for young kids probably aged 5 and up. Hot tub was hot! You can probably only stay in it for 10 mins. I recommend this hotel if you have plans to go to Calaway Park or if you were to continue to Banff. We had choose this hotel for its location and also that Sheraton had a deal of getting the 3rd night free.

“"Disgusting Smelly Experience"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2010

We were extremely surprised to see such demise of this hotel given that we had stayed in this establishment several years ago and had a fine experience at that time, but alas time has passed and we found ourselves in a room that smelled of urine, the pillows smelled of vomit and overall room was absolutely disgustingly filthy!!!! We caution anyone thinking of staying in this hotel to stay elsewhere given the the $175 cost.

“Hit and Miss”

The good -

The beds were extremely comfortable. Both my partner and I arrived after about a week of stress and insomnia, and our two nights here allowed us to catch up on some much needed rest.

The room was really spacious, the balcony was nice, and the front desk staff were friendly. There was free wi-fi in the room, which the partner took advantage of.

The bad -

It was not as clean as I would like a hotel room to be. There were brown smears on the side of the toilet tank (not stains, but actual dirt). One of the room phones didn't work.

The restaurant was a distinct disappointment. The service was friendly, but slow. Very, very slow. We arrived just after the buffet closed and were one of about three tables in the restaurant. First, the creamer for our coffee was sour and I had to ask for new coffee. Then, our food took forever - he ordered the lunch special while I ordered toast and a fruit cup - it took 40 minutes to arrive and the fruit cup never made it to our table (but certainly made it to the bill). The food was slightly underwhelming, though maybe that's because, after nearly an hour's wait in an empty restaurant, we expected bells and whistles.

Probably wouldn't return, all in all. I am sure there are much better hotels out there for the rate.
