“Gorgeous and Welcoming!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2012

We just returned from a stay at the Post Hotel for our 20th anniversary. I grew up always going to the Chateau Lake Louise but after a few bad experiences (which cost us a lot of money!), we decided to try something else and were impressed by the reviews on the Post Hotel.

We felt like welcomed guests from the moment we arrived! The champagne and chocolate strawberries in our King room were a welcomed treat. The room was rustic and very comfortable...the bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable and we slept very well! I appreciated the little touches like a stack of magazines, a fireplace that was ready to light and bath salts to name a few. The hotel is set along the river and we spent a lot of time walking and enjoying the scenery.

The pool and spa are beautiful and relaxing...much nicer than the pool at the Chateau. It is probably the nicest pool I have been to in the mountains.

We drove up the Chateau to hike and walk around the lake during the day. We enjoyed the beautiful setting of the Chateau but didn't need to pay the outrageous parking fees as you can park for free during the day but not if you stay there as a guest.

My only complaint would be that although there is free wifi, we never did get it to work in our room. I am assuming that you could probably access it in the lobby (which offers complimentary tea and coffee in the afternoon). We honestly wanted to get away from everything so it wasn't a big deal for us not to have internet in our room.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone and are already looking forward to our next visit there!

Room Tip: Rooms along the river have a beautiful view!

“Wonderful return visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2012

The Post is always the first choice for a return short visit to Banff/ Lake Louise. I booked to celebrate a landmark birthday for my husband and, upon arrival, discovered a lovely surprise awaiting us in our room. The room, although on the "non-preferred" side, is lovely and when sitting on the balcony, there are still gorgeous mountain views and treetops. The car park below is really a non-issue as the atmosphere around the Post is still and serene!

Thank you Andre and George for a lovely stay!

Room Tip: don't be put off by parking lot view, especially on 3rd floor rooms, you still have forest and m...

“Beware The Internet Pricing”

We booked a room at this 4+ star hotel with the best on-line rate. Upon arrival late in the day, my wife and I were given a room with two very small single beds. Not quite what we were hoping for. Given our booking preference for the lowest available rate we were't entirely surprised....

However, including ourselves, I would guess that there were fewer that a couple of dozen other guests staying in this fractionally occupied hotel. This was confirmed by the front desk who indicated that they had plenty of availability.

The problem is this: When we asked about the possibility of an upgrade to a room with a single queen-size bed, suitable for normal sized humans, we were told that despite the plethora of unoccupied rooms, one with a single bed would cost us an additional 50%. I pointed out that a simple upgrade of this kind would not incur any additional cost to the hotel and would, in fact, be less work for their staff who would otherwise be making up two beds instead of one and, in addition, would be moving furniture back into place after my wife and I moved these two ridiculously small single beds together. Furthermore, in hotels of this caliber in which I've previously stayed under similar circumstances (Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise) would simply offer the complimentary upgrade without prompting.

I would venture that 4+ and 5 star hotels like this are primarily promoted by word of mouth. As a result of this experience, I will probably be reluctant to give friends, family and business associates a positive review of this hotel in light of their inflexible policy.

As an aside, If you are interested in fitness or the spa/pool facilities (beautiful, by the way), you'd better enjoy them before 9 pm at which time they close down. Maybe it's just me, but this seems awfully early and, certainly, is not in keeping with other hotels with similar amenities.

Room Tip: Don't embarrass yourself by trying to reason a room upgrade with the inflexible front desk staff

“A consistent jewel”

My wife and I stayed at the Post last weekend, due to the Fairmount not being able to give us the lakeside room we had requested (they offered a room with a view of the parking lot as an alternative). We have stayed at the Post a number of times over the past 35 years, and were pleased that it has continued to maintain such a high standard. Our room at the back was spacious, well appointed and quiet (I'm a light sleeper but didn't even hear the trains). The quality of the linens and toiletries was outstanding. We had 2 meals in the hotel-excellent food, well-prepared and served. There was no charge for a second glass of juice or a second latte at breakfast. At lunch, we had a small carafe of the house white wine which was an excellent, well-priced chardonnay. For wine-lovers, the wine list is superb. The staff are very well trained and appropriately attentive. We didn't use the spa or pool but will on our next visit. Overall, the Post is a little more expensive than the Fairmount, but parking is free (vs $35/day for valet parking at the Fairmount) and excellent value for the price. Stay at the Post and drive up to walk around Lake Louise!

Room Tip: Rooms on the north side are quieter.

This excelent hotel is located a few minutes walk from lake louise , at the heart of the Canadien nature. It's the best accomodation alternative for visitors to the region.

Superb hospitality and service - Staff very well trained, most kind and well selected

Excellent food - we had breakfast lunch and dinner in the hotel's restaurant, everyday during our stay - the food and service were so ggod, we didn't want to explore other places.
