“Poor value & unpleasant”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2008

We booked here for one night in one of the basic rooms #9. Disappointed considering it cost us $167 (incl. taxes) for something so basic. It was old and the decor was out dated, and had a musty old smell to it. The positive is that it was clean. So clean that the towels smells like bleach. There's no common room like a motel. The manager Ulla was friendly in the beginning of our stay, though she became a bit unpleasant when we mistakenly sat on one of the private porches. Her unpleasant mannerism left a poor impression on the lodge/motel. A better alternative would be a B &B or motel. Overall, poor value.

  • Liked — Clean, but your money can go farther for what your'e getting
  • Disliked — room old and musty, poor service

“Clean, comfortable and quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2008

We stayed in Banff for 3 nights. Elkhorn lodge is ideally located just over the bridge from the main Banff street. This means a short stroll (10 minutes) in to town and no noise at night. The owner was really helpful. We stayed in room #9 which was one of the basic ones. It was really comfortable with good bed and it's own en-suite. Banff and the area also has so much to offer. Although no food is included in the price, there are lots of good places to eat in Banff.

  • Liked — quiet, peaceful, clean, close to town
  • Disliked — nothing

“Nice Place!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2007

Very quiet and nice Lodge... They serve no breakfast, though... And it's also a bit pricey (We paid $116.60 CDN in early June, 2007). But the place in itself is a charm. No noise at all, even though we had our room right next to the stairs. We had the TV and Coffee Maker included in the room, and there is a small lounge next to the stairs, on the second floor, which is shared by everyone.

I highly recommend this beautiful spot, very close to downtown and Fairmont Hotel.

“Sweet Deal”

This is a nice little place within walking distance of downtown. The beds are comfortable and the service is friendly.

The room was quite resaonably priced and came with coffee, the usual shampoo/conditioner, and cable TV.

My only complaint is that the rooms don't have telephones. There is a pay-phone in the upstairs common area, but it mostly ate my change.

  • Liked — Free wireless internet, Fridge in the room
  • Disliked — No telephone in the room
