We stayed at the Driftwood for two nights with our dog just at the end of the shoulder season. We got a rate of around $80 per night. This seemed pretty reasonable considering the going rate for other hotels in town which were in the $125+ range. We noticed that that Best Western's Sliding 29 had raised its rate considerably since we stayed there three weeks previously.
There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the place. It is bare bones but clean. There was no fridge in our room, or bedside tables. We had a top floor room, i.e. second floor room which was overlooked quite closely by the neighbouring Ptarmigan Hotel (which you have to check into incidentally as there's no reception at the Driftwood).
A couple of things to note - which are by no means the fault of the Driftwood:
1) You could hear the very large, heavy ravens hopping along the roof above our room with their accompanying loud sqwarks each morning (after 8am thankfully)!
2) We were awoken twice after 2am by drunken teens using the alleyway between the Ptarmigan and the Driftwood - Friday and Saturday nights to be fair
Although the Driftwood had no pool, we had complimentary access to the Ptarmigan's.
All-in-all the Driftwood met expectations and we spent approx. $100 less on accommodation over two nights than we would have staying at other lower-end hotels in the Banff area.
