“Great location but fairly average hotel”

We stayed in a double room upstairs. The first couple of nights were fine as the hotel was quite quiet, but we did notice a change in noise levels for our final night and so if you're travelling here during peak season it's probably wise to pack ear plugs just in case. The room was spacious and clean, and had a coffee maker and kettle but no fridge.

The location is great, only a couple of minutes from the centre and you are given free bus passes on arrival which get you to most places within the area (except the ski resorts).

The restaurant/bar in the Ptarmagan is a good deal with the 2 for 1 pizza voucher we were given at checkin.

This is a good option if you're on a budget and want to spend most of your time out and about.

Welcome home and thank you for taking the time to write your review.
Our convenient location is very popular with travelers, however s you mentioned it can also cause some noise issues on the streets during the peak season,. However if you wish to try some ear plugs or have forgotten your please call the front desk and we will be happy to supply some for you.
We hop e to see you again on your next visit to Banff.

“It's OK”

We stayed at the Driftwood for two nights with our dog just at the end of the shoulder season. We got a rate of around $80 per night. This seemed pretty reasonable considering the going rate for other hotels in town which were in the $125+ range. We noticed that that Best Western's Sliding 29 had raised its rate considerably since we stayed there three weeks previously.
There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the place. It is bare bones but clean. There was no fridge in our room, or bedside tables. We had a top floor room, i.e. second floor room which was overlooked quite closely by the neighbouring Ptarmigan Hotel (which you have to check into incidentally as there's no reception at the Driftwood).

A couple of things to note - which are by no means the fault of the Driftwood:
1) You could hear the very large, heavy ravens hopping along the roof above our room with their accompanying loud sqwarks each morning (after 8am thankfully)!
2) We were awoken twice after 2am by drunken teens using the alleyway between the Ptarmigan and the Driftwood - Friday and Saturday nights to be fair

Although the Driftwood had no pool, we had complimentary access to the Ptarmigan's.

All-in-all the Driftwood met expectations and we spent approx. $100 less on accommodation over two nights than we would have staying at other lower-end hotels in the Banff area.

“Cheap(ish) but convenient”

Having booked in at Ptarmagan we found our room to be adequate in the Driftwood which is in effect an annexe across the car park. Pretty good value. Centrally located so easy enough to find plenty of places to eat. The rear entrance takes you in to the back street and is very convenient for local supermarket and liquor store.

“Good low-cost hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

Due to the excessive lodging costs in Banff, I chose the Driftwood Inn over its more expensive counterparts. I experienced no major issues, and I would definitely return if I came back to Banff.

Rooms are fairly basic (no comfortable chairs) but the bed was fine. No bugs or dirt. There are some annoyances, such as a non-functional thermostat, a dark parking area, and the electrical outlets shutting off when the room lights are switched off. The walls are thin and I could hear my neighbors talking every night, but fortunately none of my neighbors were noisy.

The location is excellent in downtown Banff.

If cost wasn't a concern, I would stay somewhere else, but if you're on a budget, there's no problem staying here.
