“Super location and great waterfalls!”

We arrived at johnston canyon based on a recommendation we heard and found the scenery spetacular. The fall colors had just changed and the bears had not yet gone into hibernation. We got a glimpse of black bear but wanted to see a grizzley. The cabins were well kept and clean which we were grateful as the last place was not so clean. The restaurant had a great burger and the staff were friendly. We appreciated the change of pace. It was much more relaxed. We would return. Work caught up with us...

“We Come For The Chipmunks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

This is was our second stay here. Just like last year we came to celebrate my dog’s Birthday. You just can’t get any more “Dog Friendly” than this place. He is in his complete glory chasing the Chipmunks and Squirrels up the trees. Plus following the scent of the misc wildlife in the area keeps him so exhilarated that he is beyond exhausted by bedtime. There are plenty of friendly dogs staying at the cabins or attached to the Cabin Staff. Aside from the hike to the waterfalls there is a camp ground across the road that makes for a nice walk along the river. . If you got a dog! This is where he wants you to stay. The cabins are simple, but clean. There is plenty of hot water. Stop off at a thrift store along the way and pickup some Videos if you need to watch TV. There is a small TV/VCR combo in each cabin. You can also rent videos for 5.00 up at the coffee shop/gift shop/restaurant. The Pillows are not that great and for a double bed they only give you three. I would suggest you bring your own. There is a small fridge, coffee maker, a small table. The fireplace does an amazing job of heating the cabin. Of course the fancier the cabin you choose the more you’re going to find in it. We just rented the basic one. There are a couple of BQ’s for people to use. There is a public phone booth. OH! My dog loved how the bed was next to a window so he could keep up his Chipmunk vigil throughout the night. The seats out on our porch were very comfortable and we spent a great deal of time just relaxing out there. I admit that this place is not “cheap” but I think as a treat it is worth it. Just bring extra pillows, a good flashlight for any “pee breaks” your dog might need at night, and of course your Dog. He deserves it! And you could do with a relaxing back to nature weekend too. We will back same time next year. Keep in mind that you pay 20.00 a night at the Banff Toll Booth as wel1.

“An amazing location”

Stay here if you don't mind somewhat rustic accommodations in a truly incredible location. The cabins are clean and comfortable but do not offer telephone or cable tv as a previous reviewer noted. I personally found that a plus, we hiked and enjoyed the peace and quiet. The cabins are within a easy drive of Banff and Lake Louise and it is so nice to leave the crowds of Banff and Lake Louise behind. If you want to experience the Rockies from a very unique perspective stay here.

“OK, but probably won't return”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2010

First, things that you should know. Cancellations must be made 48 hours prior to stay. There is a $25.00 dollar handling charge for cancellations. The cabins are located in the Banff National Park & are located approx. 25 minutes from the city of Banff. Read the fine print on their website. Hiked to the lower falls, beautiful. Johnson Canyon (the park portion) was outstandiing. The cabin wasn't exactly as pictured on their website. No outdoor sitting area / balcony for the duplex cabin. Loved the wood burning fireplace. Gas heater kept the cabin warm. Very tiny but pretty bathroom. There is a public telephone booth close to the cabins. View depends on the cabin location. Ask. Service was fine. It was an interesting experience, a little too expensive for the accomodations, my thoughts...but if you're not on a budget, like to hike, & don't mind the drive to Banff, it's acceptable.

“Take a pass”

We stayed at the resort one night of the two we had booked. These are very rustic cabins with no TV or phone. Cabins are very close together and need repair. Ours smelled like smoke. In bed, the mattress was bad and we both ended up in the middle. The restaurant is super expensive.
