“Stunning location, pricey but worth it”

Stayed here with wife and young baby, stayed at one of the cabins - very rustic - nice fireplace, good bathroom, and comfy bed. The restaurant site was fairly expensive - but nice food. Pitty there wasn't a shop selling supplies, we were looking for milk for my son, and had to but some from the cafe which cost me $5.
Saying this, the view from outside the cabin was amazing, took my breath away.
At night we stayed outside for hours gazing at the stars, no noise and no light for miles....amazing.

“wonderful setting and great staff!”

We stayed at johnston canyon and found the setting very colourful. The rooms were clean and tidy. The front desk offered some excellent ideas for sight seeing. They even let us know about another water fall nearby called silverton falls which was most interesting. The value was good and food was wonderful. We had the trout and salmon in the dining room. The wait staff in the dining room were very attentive. Hope to return soon!

Room Tip: The location we had was closer to the back which was a bit more secuded.

“Small and expensive but nice location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

The size of our (smallest?) bungalow was not what we hoped for during a rainy afternoon and day. We expected a lot of this stay, but unfortunately... The people in the office were not friendly and the cabin was not just oldfashioned, but just old and shabby, it smelled of wet dogs.

We 'did' the Canyon and Inkpots that morning as we drove early from Canmore, but we'd recommend getting up early and walk the beautiful Canyon routes as you've stayed in Johnston Canyon.

The room was very small and it is actually like a little shed. Nothing romantic about it, just old and dusty. The shower was ok. We had a nice dinner in the restaurant, service there was good.
We would recommend it for the location only, the stay isn't good value for a lot of money.

Room Tip: Make sure to book a bungalow with more than just one room.

“Beautiful setting”

These are lovely authentic wooden bungelows set in a leafy location. Our cabin around the perimeter was quite secluded and idealistic. We loved the tranquil atmosphere and apart from been eaten by a few mosquitoes very nice to sit out on the terasse in the evening. Cabin was clean and well furnished. No TV available which in its own way was nice. In the morning it was so easy to walk up to the Canyon trail.
Only thing I found a little iritating was that after a long drive and with a very grumpy tired child the restaurant said they were behind and although it didn't seem busy there woudl be quite a wait in getting served. Not a problem though as we went to the cafe next door which I think shares a kitchen, was a very sweet place and seved/fed immediately.

“Booked & Paid But Never Stayed Here!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

After visiting the Lower Falls in 2008 we decided to stay at the resort so we could spend the whole day at this beautiful site and visit the falls early before the high number of tourists arrive. We booked and paid in full for the Classic Pilot Bungalow 11 months prior to our arrival in August 2011. However, when we arrived there was no record of our booking! Luckily we had printed a copy of their confirmation email which we showed the staff. Since they were fully booked (doubled booked our bungalow) we were told it was our fault for booking too early and we would have to stay somewhere else. The receptionist phoned around local resorts and booked us into a Castle Mountain Chalet which is 10 Km away. The accommodation was the same price but did not include the breakfast which was included with the Johnston Canyon booking as Castle Mountain Chalets do not serve food.
There no extra charge to us as Johnston Canyon picked up the bill however we did have to travel up and down the road (10 KM each way) to drop off luggage, visit the falls, eat etc.
We were not charged for dinner at Johnston Canyon, which was very nice, as a goodwill gesture. Unfortunately we had to find somewhere else for breakfast (Baker Creek Chalets) since we could not afford to travel 10 KM in the wrong direction the next morning. This however, did have to be paid for even though we had paid for breakfast at Johnston Canyon in advance.
To sum up Johnston Canyon is a fantastic place to visit but if you are planning to stay there be aware that you should confirm your booking before you travel.
