“Basic Waterfall Room good valur with Sunshine/Marmot Card”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2011

Booked this room midweek for $120 with a Sunshine Marmot Card. Being right on the hill was fantastic. Booked a basic waterfall view room. FYI waterfall view is not of an actual waterfall... but rather the ski run that you have a view of is called waterfall.

The room had the basics, coffee maker and coffee, phone, TV, Bed, bathroom. The bathroom was quite nice, the bed was warm and comfortable. Overall the hotel was what I wanted it to be, a comfortable stay for the night!

You check-in at the base of the Gondola and the hotel staff ensure your bags are delivered to your room. We checked in at 8:30 am as we were skiing the day before out stay. They took our bags at the base. When we arrived at the top of the gondola we went to the hotel to see if they had a room that they could give us right away even though it was well before check-in time, they did not, but they gave us the option to leave our boots in the day storage so that we could put our ski gear on and not pay for a locker in the day lodge just to store our boots. My only complaint is that they would have had a room available... it was a Wednesday the week local kids went back to school following Christmas break. The reservation staff told me it was their slowest time of the year, especially being mid-week. The restaurant was empty that night for dinner, and the hotpool was also empty for two full hours that evening..... this hotel was empty, and yet they didn't have a room that we could use during the day of our arrival. The fact we paid to ski that day and the next was apparently not good enough. But I also realize that I was asking for something "above and beyond"... sadly they did not deliver.

Other reviews complained about food options.... there is a formal dining room, or a casual dining room. I was able to enjoy dinner in the casual dining room with a drink for LESS than what I paid for a burger and onion rings with NO drink in the day lodge cafeteria at lunchtime! So certainly no complaint about the meal options! In fact during our next trip (which will just be 1 day of skiing so no need for the hotel stay) I will actually eat at the hotel vs going to the ski lodge for lunch!

They provide locked storage for skis overnight, and the exit from the locker room takes you right to the snow.

One thing to consider when booking.... ask for the various room types and prices. When I first called I asked for their best rate for the night with a sunshine card, and was offered $120. I called back a week later to make the actual reservation and was quoted $180... I tell them I was told $120, and the agent tells me... well yes... that is the rate for our waterfall room. So you need to ensure you are actually getting the best price possible when you call to make the reservation ASK to be sure! The $180 room probably had a better view, but it was not the best rate that I had requested!

“Amazing Romantic Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2010

I went here December of 2009 with my partner for a romantic getaway. The hotel is at the top of the gondola at the sunshine ski resort. You really can't get much closer of much better than this.

The room was absolutely gorgeous complete with super cozy king sized bed, a fireplace, and a jacuzzi tub. The shower was big enough for two and the tiles floors are heated. Wonderful.

The staff met our every need, making sure there were always lindt chocolates on the bed and wine glasses when it was time to wind down. The alarm clock doubles as an iPod dock. I always look for this now, but never get to see it.

The view, though. Oh my god, the view. Our room overlooked the new chairlift and the mountians, so I was actually seconds away from my next run.

The only thing I would even begin to complain about is the food. There's not a whole lot for selection if you eat after the gondola shuts down. But, to be fair, the kitchen did their best to accomodate my picky eating. But charging me the same amount for a chicken alfredo that they do for their specialtiy pastas... eh. I don't care how good it is, no alfreado is worth $30. ;)

They have a great wine selection on hand and I would definitely recommend trying the Ceago. It's an Australian vintage that is light, fruity and way too easy to drink.

If you're staying here it can be very expensive. We managed to get a very hefty discount on the room after purchasing a season pass to Sunshine. While the room was normally around $700/night, we really only paid $200, so if you're looking to kill two birds with one stone, I'd look into this option.

“The Canadian Rockies Best Kept Secret”

During the last weekenf of May 2010 I took the fmaily up to the cozy Sunshine Mountain Lodge in beautiful Banff National Park. We had stayed at the hotel several years ago and were very pleased with the extensive renovations and upgrades Sunshine Village has made. Comfy beds, warm rustic colors, delighful bathrooms.

Service was incredible with an amazing team of highly-trained mostly Australian staff, that also give tips on where to ski at the resort.

The real experience is being right there - slope-side - kids can play and explore - a world away from the buzz of the city. A perfect weekend, mid-week escape.

“Spring snow pure magic. Staff and hotel also great.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2010

We got upgraded to a family room in the new wing when we arrived early May. Sunshine was th eonly thing left open in Banff beyond the first weekend in May. The room was clean, nicely put together, though hot and with little control over the heating. We slept most nights with the window open to cool things down.

We extended our stay because the snow was crazy good! Each night there was fresh powder, and with the sun setting at 9pm the huge hot tub was the perfect place to sit and rest for the evening. Rumour has it this summer they will renovate and put in two more pools, which will be great for kids who find the big one too hot.

There were two restaurant choices on the mountain - and no real way to get to other options. The food is fine, with veggie options. The staff were sweet and mostly Australian's so we felt right at home.

The daycare was awesome. My three year old LOVED it, with tobogganing and ski lessons on most days. My seven year old learnt to snowboard and the instructors were excellent and kind.

My kids have demanded that we go back because they had such a good time. My husband and I agree. Spring skiing this year was sooo good. We are thinking of making this an annual thing.

And one last note - Goats Eye mountain is awesome for boarding. Go there.

“We stayed here in shoulder season in...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2010 via mobile

We stayed here in shoulder season in April. So it was worth the package deal. It was nice to stay on hill for one night but any longer than that and the cabin fever would have set in. I would recommend staying in the deluxe room since it is bigger. The food could be better. In hindsight, it would have been better to eat at the fancy restaurant. It was okay but would probably stay inn Canmore next time.

Therefore I would only recommend in low season with a group of friends for a weekend.
