“Sunshine Mountain Lodge Staff Cater to Wild Partying Types”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2011

We completely loved our accommodations and the skiing was excellent. But we did cut short our stay by one day because the staff were unable or not capable of enforcing the rules mainly that of not bringing alcohol on site. For two nights we endured a bus trip of loud and over-bearing young skiiers who took over the two main dining areas in the lodge. Surely there was adequate room for them in Mad Trappers lodge which would have been more appropriate to their partying habits. When speaking to the management we were told that they were not sure what they could tell these people in order to quieten them down. This was after we explained how they also took over the hot tub, continued to call down to their room mates to bring more liquor down to the hot tub which included all kinds of glass bottles. Although the staff were aware of this at no time was there anyone to come and monitor the situation out or remind them of the rules. When we spoke to the front desk about penalties for leaving a day early they informed us that the partiers were leaving the next day. At this point we were more concerned about the ability/reliability of the staff there to deal with unruly guests. Sunshine Village is a great place to ski however and our accommodations were clean and comfortable. The staff in the restaurants are somewhat untrained and fine dining atmosphere is non existant. Probably would not stay there again.

“Just gets Better in the Canadian Rockies”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2011

We stayed the Sunshine Mountain Loadge last spring, and although very comfortable and unigue, it was the end of the season ski season and they could have used more staff. We returned thier this January and wow, lot's of staff, lot's off attention - it could not have been better from the service side. Eq: our 8 year old decided to wear his grande hot chocolate and staff moved into position like they were workin off a "playbook" and things were scrubbed up and he was thankful and sipping on a new hot chocolate before we knew it. fabulous.

Again, being up at the resort when the lifts shut down is very unique, peaceful and stressless. agreat hot tub, quiet dinner, fireside chat, and off to bed to be first to hit the slopes in the morning. If you are up in Banff National Park for a week or so, it is a great side-stay.

Cheers

We have skiied at Sunshine for years but first time we stayed onhill in the hotel - for Christmas party. Room was great - large 2 floor suite with 2 bathrooms. Only complaint was NO HOT WATER at 5 pm when off ski hill getting ready for party or at 9 AM getting ready for the day.

“Basic Waterfall Room good valur with Sunshine/Marmot Card”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2011

Booked this room midweek for $120 with a Sunshine Marmot Card. Being right on the hill was fantastic. Booked a basic waterfall view room. FYI waterfall view is not of an actual waterfall... but rather the ski run that you have a view of is called waterfall.

The room had the basics, coffee maker and coffee, phone, TV, Bed, bathroom. The bathroom was quite nice, the bed was warm and comfortable. Overall the hotel was what I wanted it to be, a comfortable stay for the night!

You check-in at the base of the Gondola and the hotel staff ensure your bags are delivered to your room. We checked in at 8:30 am as we were skiing the day before out stay. They took our bags at the base. When we arrived at the top of the gondola we went to the hotel to see if they had a room that they could give us right away even though it was well before check-in time, they did not, but they gave us the option to leave our boots in the day storage so that we could put our ski gear on and not pay for a locker in the day lodge just to store our boots. My only complaint is that they would have had a room available... it was a Wednesday the week local kids went back to school following Christmas break. The reservation staff told me it was their slowest time of the year, especially being mid-week. The restaurant was empty that night for dinner, and the hotpool was also empty for two full hours that evening..... this hotel was empty, and yet they didn't have a room that we could use during the day of our arrival. The fact we paid to ski that day and the next was apparently not good enough. But I also realize that I was asking for something "above and beyond"... sadly they did not deliver.

Other reviews complained about food options.... there is a formal dining room, or a casual dining room. I was able to enjoy dinner in the casual dining room with a drink for LESS than what I paid for a burger and onion rings with NO drink in the day lodge cafeteria at lunchtime! So certainly no complaint about the meal options! In fact during our next trip (which will just be 1 day of skiing so no need for the hotel stay) I will actually eat at the hotel vs going to the ski lodge for lunch!

They provide locked storage for skis overnight, and the exit from the locker room takes you right to the snow.

One thing to consider when booking.... ask for the various room types and prices. When I first called I asked for their best rate for the night with a sunshine card, and was offered $120. I called back a week later to make the actual reservation and was quoted $180... I tell them I was told $120, and the agent tells me... well yes... that is the rate for our waterfall room. So you need to ensure you are actually getting the best price possible when you call to make the reservation ASK to be sure! The $180 room probably had a better view, but it was not the best rate that I had requested!

“Amazing Romantic Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2010

I went here December of 2009 with my partner for a romantic getaway. The hotel is at the top of the gondola at the sunshine ski resort. You really can't get much closer of much better than this.

The room was absolutely gorgeous complete with super cozy king sized bed, a fireplace, and a jacuzzi tub. The shower was big enough for two and the tiles floors are heated. Wonderful.

The staff met our every need, making sure there were always lindt chocolates on the bed and wine glasses when it was time to wind down. The alarm clock doubles as an iPod dock. I always look for this now, but never get to see it.

The view, though. Oh my god, the view. Our room overlooked the new chairlift and the mountians, so I was actually seconds away from my next run.

The only thing I would even begin to complain about is the food. There's not a whole lot for selection if you eat after the gondola shuts down. But, to be fair, the kitchen did their best to accomodate my picky eating. But charging me the same amount for a chicken alfredo that they do for their specialtiy pastas... eh. I don't care how good it is, no alfreado is worth $30. ;)

They have a great wine selection on hand and I would definitely recommend trying the Ceago. It's an Australian vintage that is light, fruity and way too easy to drink.

If you're staying here it can be very expensive. We managed to get a very hefty discount on the room after purchasing a season pass to Sunshine. While the room was normally around $700/night, we really only paid $200, so if you're looking to kill two birds with one stone, I'd look into this option.
