“Extremely Rude Hotel Staff - Horrible Experience.”

As frequent Banff visitors, my friends and I will NEVER stay at the Voyager Inn again! We were there for a few hours and we stepped onto the balcony for a smoke, we came back into the room and house keeping was in there. They accused us of breaking into the room (over a huge balcony..) after we showed them our IDs and Room Keys they brought us to the lobby in front of everyone and the manager yelled at us, told us we were sketchy and said she had no record of us being in the room. After she realized she was wrong - instead of apologizing to us - she yelled at housekeeping, trying to put the blame on them. When we checked out a few days later we spoke with another manager explained what happened and told her how embarrassed we were, she sluffed it off and said she needed to speak with housekeeping to get their side of the story. We never got an apology, the way this whole situation was handled was VERY unprofessional and I would NEVER recommend this hotel to ANYONE!!! It's no cheaper than the other hotels in Banff and it's far from downtown. Unfortunatly this was NOT the only incident we had with this hotel but I'm not going to drag this on any further. They honestly ruined the only thing they could have had going for them - friendly staff. I hope this will help you when choosing a place to stay on your trip!

room was chilled at 15 C asked the staff very late response and gave a portable heater said this is a common problem in winter as the hotel is old and has water heating which is not effective. room lacked cleanliness, half of the lights were not working, poor bedding, worst cable signal on tv. internet was down most of the three days stay.

“If you have high standards, keep driving...”

Yeah this is economy accommodation all the way. The building is old and a bit run down, but my standards are pretty low so the room met my needs. It is hard to see all the pretty buildings and hotels along Banff Ave, meanwhile you’re staying in a cheap motel. But it all depends on what you’re prepared to pay. And this is a fairly expensive touristy town. So for $128US, this place is fine. It did include a simple breakfast too. I wasn’t expecting anything fantastic of this accommodation and as such I wasn’t disappointed.

“Room ok, shame about the included breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

I stayed at this hotel with friends on 11th and 12th Sept 2010. The rooms were clean but basic although the beds were comfy and when asked they did find a power cable so my friend could plug in a vital piece of medical equipment. Breakfast on the morning of the 12th was interesting to say the least and reminded us of being in the school canteen or a youth hostel. Although included in the price there was a choice of toast, cereal or a muffin with tea, water or coffee. There was no juice for my friends daughter, the cutlery was plastic and when asked the staff said that all the metal cutlery was in the wash. We did not enjoy the breakfast at all and on the second morning we opted to pay more for the hot breakfast buffet in the main restaurant which although was enjoyable was not the best I have ever had but it filled a hole.
The nights in the hotel were noisy with a dog barking initially until his/her owners came back to their room, then we had children running up and down the corridors at 0600 hrs obviously their parents did not care that some people actually like to sleep. On the second night we had some other adults screaming and laughing in the corridors.
I would suggest that this hotel is used a one night stop over and not for a long holiday. For info of would be skiers they do not allow skis inside the hotel so remember that when booking your ski hols.
I would recommend the hotel for those on a low budget however if you can afford to eat breakfast in the restaurant I suggest you do so as you will have the choice of the hot buffet or items off the menu all for a reasonable price.
Good luck with getting a good night sleep though.
Another thing to bear in mind is that there is a car park area either side of the hotel however the spaces are smaller than average, my friend had to swing a massive 4 by 4 truck in to the spaces and some people had parked over 2 spaces as they are so small - not ideal for the big trucks and cars that are needed for the snowy weather.
Banff town is beautiful and I can recommend Tony Romas and Chillis (based in the Fox hotel a short walk from the Voyager Inn) for reasonably priced decent food.
The staff at the hotel were friendly and I noticed various languages spoken to guests including English, French, German and Japanese.
