“A wierd place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

This was a really wierd place to stay, the hotel is strange almost like an old hospital that has been transformed. It seemed very institutional. But Banff is an expensive place so for the price, it did us well. We were informed that we could dine in the restaurant when we arrived, by an Australian receptionist. Then when we went down for dinner after washing up, we were told we couldn't eat in the restaurant for dinner as we had children and could not walk through the bar to get there? Very strange.
This is a really old hotel, in need of a serious upgrade. We stayed for 4 nights and after 4 nights we were ready to leave.

“We didn't chance eating in the restaurant”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

On our way home, we were getting tired and needed to stop overnight. We knew Banff wouldn't have much in the way of our price range, but we thought we would try. This is what we found. It was $89, but you had to put down a $100 deposit??? For what??? I don't think we could have made that place any more nasty than it was. But, I think we would have perferred to pay an extra $100 and get a room at a place that wasn't disgusting.
The first room we were given, my nose burned from some sort of weird smell on the bed.The smoke detector kept beeping, the beds were concaved, so we asked to switch rooms. They switched us, but the new room was really not any better.
The carpet was old, stained, and the edges were lined with years of dust. I don't think they had ever been steam cleaned and this is an old hotel! There was a beer tab on the floor by the bed, and on the other side there was change from the last patron. There was a used cloth hanging on the shower curtain that I only noticed when I went to have a shower in the morning. I went to use one of the clean clothes, and found that there was a curly hair inside of it. I decided not to chance the other 'clean' cloth. The coffee maker was not cleaned out from the last guest.
We didn't even chance using the $7 voucher per person they give you to have breakfast in their restaurant.
When we checked out and the front desk staff asked us how our stay was, we told them. The lady said, oh it looks like you've already received a discount for that. We informed her that was the AAA discount, and was not for our discomfort. She didn't say anything and handed us our receipt.
Blech... Don't stay here. We wouldn't have if we were not just on our way home, and we never will again!!!
Pay the extra money and enjoy Banff!! If the hotel is under $100 in Banff, it is not worth staying at. Even the not so amazing hotels are over $100 a night in Banff. It's just the way it is. We should have known that this would be as disgusting as it was, but we did it anyway. It was a very very very bad choice!

Room Tip: If you must stay here, try the right hand side of the building. It seemed a little less disgusting t...
