“Beautiful Peaceful Location away from the typical tourist area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2010

The Cairns Rainforest Studios is well appointed upstairs downstairs wooden tree top type of accommodation, attached to a private residence. The location is a good 30 mins out of central Cairns and very close to the Kuranda Sky Rail. We had the upstairs spa suite which was very well appointed, clean and comfortable with a balcony overlooking the surrounding tree tops. Unfortunately, the owners Laura and Jon were currently not in residence, however, Fluer, and Bauke were looking after the place and were great hosts. This accommodation suited us perfectly it was quite, private, and within the Kuranda rainforest area which is beautiful. Our hosts were perfect, they left us to ourselves, but were always on hand if we needed anything and very helpful when we required it. You will need to organise transport to get to the location, but once there it is easy to navigate your way around by car and there is parking on site out the front of the cabin. We found the laundry facilities a great bonus and the spa a relaxing treat at the end of a long day exploring the great things Cairns had on offer. The only concern was the light in the stair case outside, it wasn't very bright and worried us a bit coming up and down the stairs at night. There were a couple of small maintenance issues that couldn't be fixed at the time, one in particular such as the ongoing running of a toilet all night was a bit bothersome. Overall it was a great property for a great price in a superb location. Would highly recommend it.

“Excellent Accommodation Just Far Enough Outside of Cairns”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2009

My wife and I stayed a short five nights at the Studios and were thoroughly happy with our experience. We felt that the location was ideal and that the studio was a great value for the money. It was clean, very comfortable, and nicely decorated. Particularly convenient was the kitchenette that allowed us to prepare meals to enjoy on the balcony with great views of the tropical landscape. It was always a pleasure returning to the studio after a long day of exploring, diving, or hiking. We can't wait to return!

My only suggestion for the studios would be to expand wireless internet to cover the studios. My wife and I were disappointed to learn that internet access was only available from outside the studio, down the stairs, and outside on a patio. It sure would have been nice to have been able to use internet in the comfort of our room.

“An ideal peaceful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2009

We were met on arrival by Laura and Jon who were really friendly and showed us how to work everything and advised us on places to visit.

Our room was on the first floor - surrounded by a lovely garden with proper rainforest trees. It was lovely to go to sleep and wake up in the morning hearing the sounds of the forest. Room had everything we needed - including a small kitchen and a spa bath big enough for two. Also had TV with digital channels and free wifi access (available downstairs on the deck). Each day Laura and/or John would make sure we were OK and provide suggestions of things to do - they were perfect hosts. It was also great to be able to get our washing done. Laura provided beach towels for our boat trip to the Great Barrier Reef - she even cleaned the car windscreen of the leaves that had fallen during the night - that's service.

Highly recommended - with lots of interesting places to visit in the surrounding area - but not too far from Cairns CBD.

“A peaceful oasis in the rainforest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2009

This is a great location a few miles outside the city center at the edge of the rainforest. It's in a peaceful residential area but you really do need a car unless all you want to do is to stay home or take walks in the nearby National Park. Downtown Cairns is about a twenty five minute drive away. There are only two studios, so you won't have a lot of company, but your hosts, Laura and John Trout, are extremely friendly and will both help you plan your stay and will provide you with good company when you get back from your day trips. We stayed in the upstairs suite which had a very nice balcony and we ate breakfast and dinner there a couple of times. Be aware that that breakfast isn't provided, but you do have a fridge, microwave, kettle and an electrical grill, so you can prepare simple meals or re-heat something bought elsewhere. There are two good supermarkets within a ten minute drive as well as many small inexpensive restaurants, mostly vietnamese apparently.
The Trouts do offer free wi-fi, which you may or may not care about, but if you do care be aware that doesn't reach to the upstairs unit, so you will have to sit on their porch to get access. Apparently it DOES work in the downstairs unit but I don't know that for sure. The upstairs unit also has a large whirlpool tub which will easily hold two, but if you want to take a shower (which you can) there is no shower curtain and keeping the water inside the tub can be a bit challenging. The floor has a drain (perhaps for this reason) so it's not a big deal but be warned. There is a pool, but we enever used it. It looked nice, though.
Cairns was our first stop on a long trip through Australia and New Zealand and the Rainforest Studios was a nice, relaxing place to stay after a long plane journey. We really enjoyed our time there and would recommend it to anyone willing to hire a car and not expecting a busy social scene.

“Idyllic tranquility”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2009

STONEY CREEK STUDIOS in Kamerunga is by far one of the best places to stay in Far North Queensland.
Nestled away in a rainforest valley only 20 minutes from Cairns CBD, it offered us everything a traveller could wish for... and then some.
We enjoyed Laura and Jon's hospitality so much that we ended up staying for two months, while exploring the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree and the Atherton Tablelands.
The studios are beautifully designed with European flair and great attention has been paid to every detail. To us it was a luxurious and yet quite affordable home away from home with the convenience of cooking facilities, laundry, satellite TV, spa bath and the latest technology in air-conditioning.
Here you really get value for your money. Laura and Jon will make you feel so comfortable that you won't like leaving again. They are also a well of information - ask them about all the special places around the area.
We absolutely adored this very private and idyllic spot with its nearby swimming holes, walking tracks and abundance of wildlife.
Stoney Creek, so close to all the hustle and bustle of Cairns and yet so far, in a cosy little world of its own...
