Our experience was so disappointing I can't believe this property won a 2012 TripAdvisor award. I am very happy we only stayed two nights, otherwise I would have checked out and gone elsewhere.
We arrived at noon, and were assured our room was ready for early check-in only to find it wasn't. Fine, I can live with that so we headed to Lemmon Grass for lunch. We waited for over 20 minutes for someone, anyone to come by and offer a menu, drink, attention, anything but no we were completely ignored. We tried to make eye contact or flag down a server but without success so we got up and left. We then went to Omaggio and were promptly seated but again waited a significant amount of time before being greeted by our server. The food came fairly quickly, unfortunately it wasn't prepared to our liking and was missing half the side order. We received the rest of the order at the end of the meal which by then was too late.
We finally got to our room only to find it was one of the few rooms without a tub. This was very disappointing and although the room (a one bedroom) was spacious, it smelled moldy and damp. Turning on the air conditioning helped to alleviate this problem some what.
I've stayed at some wonderful and luxurious all-inclusives in the past and found well-stocked refreshments and snacks in the mini-bar including beer, wine, alcohol, soft drinks and bottled water. Our experience at Marival Residences was underwhelming. Our refrigerator had two bottles of water and four cans of soft drinks. That was it. Another disappointment.
The king size bed was very hard and while I realize mattress firmness is a personal choice, this felt like we were sleeping on granite. Our shower in the master bedroom had one temperature -cold. Fortunately the other bathroom shower was working fine.
I liked the quiet atmosphere during the day and especially around the pool but the deck chairs are worn and dirty.
I was hoping, given the class & age of guests staying at this property that nights would be quiet but this was not the case. There was a dance party with a very loud DJ playing until 1AM - I don't know if this was a private event or a something the property sponsored but I have to believe other guests were also annoyed at having to listen to screaming partier's and loud music so late into the night. We called the front desk operator at 11:20 PM to express our displeasure and her only comment was, "oh, is the music loud?" Seriously, the entire resort had to have heard it.
Lastly, not wanting to miss the Beach Club and VIP services, we took the shuttle to the beach at Marival Resorts. Wow, talk about another disappointment. More dirty worn out beach chairs and no special service. We received one towel each and a cursory glance from a server asking if we would like a beverage.
I am at a loss for words to understand how our experience could differ so greatly from previous reviews but I don't have to try to understand, I just know I would never return to this property again and I'd be hard pressed to consider a Marival property anywhere.
