Our experience was so disappointing I can't believe this property won a 2012 TripAdvisor award. I am very happy we only stayed two nights, otherwise I would have checked out and gone elsewhere.

We arrived at noon, and were assured our room was ready for early check-in only to find it wasn't. Fine, I can live with that so we headed to Lemmon Grass for lunch. We waited for over 20 minutes for someone, anyone to come by and offer a menu, drink, attention, anything but no we were completely ignored. We tried to make eye contact or flag down a server but without success so we got up and left. We then went to Omaggio and were promptly seated but again waited a significant amount of time before being greeted by our server. The food came fairly quickly, unfortunately it wasn't prepared to our liking and was missing half the side order. We received the rest of the order at the end of the meal which by then was too late.

We finally got to our room only to find it was one of the few rooms without a tub. This was very disappointing and although the room (a one bedroom) was spacious, it smelled moldy and damp. Turning on the air conditioning helped to alleviate this problem some what.

I've stayed at some wonderful and luxurious all-inclusives in the past and found well-stocked refreshments and snacks in the mini-bar including beer, wine, alcohol, soft drinks and bottled water. Our experience at Marival Residences was underwhelming. Our refrigerator had two bottles of water and four cans of soft drinks. That was it. Another disappointment.

The king size bed was very hard and while I realize mattress firmness is a personal choice, this felt like we were sleeping on granite. Our shower in the master bedroom had one temperature -cold. Fortunately the other bathroom shower was working fine.

I liked the quiet atmosphere during the day and especially around the pool but the deck chairs are worn and dirty.

I was hoping, given the class & age of guests staying at this property that nights would be quiet but this was not the case. There was a dance party with a very loud DJ playing until 1AM - I don't know if this was a private event or a something the property sponsored but I have to believe other guests were also annoyed at having to listen to screaming partier's and loud music so late into the night. We called the front desk operator at 11:20 PM to express our displeasure and her only comment was, "oh, is the music loud?" Seriously, the entire resort had to have heard it.

Lastly, not wanting to miss the Beach Club and VIP services, we took the shuttle to the beach at Marival Resorts. Wow, talk about another disappointment. More dirty worn out beach chairs and no special service. We received one towel each and a cursory glance from a server asking if we would like a beverage.

I am at a loss for words to understand how our experience could differ so greatly from previous reviews but I don't have to try to understand, I just know I would never return to this property again and I'd be hard pressed to consider a Marival property anywhere.

Thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts on Trip Advisor February 11, 2012 as a result of your stay at Marival Residences & World Spa, we would like to take this opportunity to reply.

At Marival Residences & World Spa we pride ourselves with the quality attention and service we provide our guests, and we would like to apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay with us.

We are committed to personalized attention which is why your comments come as a surprise as we had no knowledge of your inconveniences and therefore, had no opportunity to tend to your needs, that is our standard. For that reason we have maintained first place in TripAdvisor for almost a year because of comments published by our guests. In your case we seem to have not met your standards and would like to give you a brief explanation with the expectation that perhaps we will be able to convince you to return.

It is very important to note that our management team and concierge are always present on the property and always at the disposition of the guests, unfortunately, did not receive any complaint or comment form you during your short stay thus not allowing us to take measures to make your stay more enjoyable.

The following is a reply to a few of your comments:

· Upon your arrival the hotel was full, when the occupancy is low the possibilities of an early check-in are more likely than when full. Like most hotels in the world the process is that check-out time is at 12:00 p.m. Then we must clean the room during the turn over process and the official check in is at 3:00 p.m.

· We must apologize about the delays and menu mix up in the Lemmon Grass and Omaggio restaurants, this is not a standard procedure; since the opening of this property our food & beverage program has been considered one of the concepts of greatest satisfaction for all our clients.

· There are not tubs in the one bedroom units, if you would had requested a tub, depending on availability the probability exists that we maybe could have given you and upgrade to a two bedroom residence, which do have tubs.

· All of our units are new and to our surprise checking each and every unit daily we have not find smell or mold problem as each unit has air-conditioning and an easily open spread door that allows fresh air in immense amounts. Besides that our house keepers performs the daily cleaning of the rooms always fully supervised by their immediate supervisor.

· Because of the children staying at our hotel, we do not pre-stock alcohol in refrigerators, as we had cases of minors drinking fridge contents, but water and soft drinks are provided on a daily basis. Therefore, upon your request (which unfortunately we have no record again) we stock your refrigerator daily with beer. Also we would like to remind you that we do have 24 hour room service with a simple phone call you would had been served drinks and food.

· All beds in our hotel arrived with certain mattress firmness for quality and durability which includes a special bed topper, however, we have additional softer bed pads for guests that request them, as you mentioned mattress firms is a personal choice. Unfortunately your sleeping comfort preference was not brought to our attention.

· In reference to the dirty deck chairs, we are constantly changing covers with fresh ones. We are also constantly fabricating new covers. There is the possibility that during the day some one may had arrived from the beach with sand and suntan oil on their bodies, sat in a deck chair and this automatically dirties the chair at the moment. This is a situation beyond our control, but taking advantage of your comment the replacement procedure has been reinforced, thank you very much.

· It is strange that one shower in the unit has one temperature and the other has another temperature. All of the units have their own individual boiler, so if the water heats up in one room automatically it has to heat in the other room. There is a possibility that a guests may turn the shower head knob the wrong way or do not leave the water running long enough.

· Because of popular demand, we present a DJ on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday nights so that our guests have some night entertainment. This evenings have been extremely successful, 11:20 p.m. is very early still yet for a DJ to end his evening. It is very rare that we have complaints about the sound. We will take your comments into consideration regarding the volume.

· Unlike the rest of the hotel at our sister resort, we have an exclusive beach resort just for Marival Residences Guests. This beach club has a fully equipped staff, waiters, cooks, bartenders & hostess. Upon arrival you are welcomed with towels waiting for you on your deck chair, sun screen lotions at no extra costs, magazines books, food and drinks in front of the beautiful sunshiny beach. It is unfortunate that you do not find this “special” as there are almost no beach clubs in the entire bay area with this particular specialized service.

Rest assured that our main goal is the total satisfaction of our customers. “Better the 2nd time around!”

We stayed at the Residences from Jan 29-Feb 5, 2012. We had previously stayed with them in 2010. I had read the reviews and have to admit was a little concerned after reading some, but decided to book anyways as the Residences had been my favorite stay in Mexico so far. We travel to Mexico several times a year, and I have to admit, this was the first time that I was not ready to go home on departure day. This was such a relaxing vacation and the service was amazing. For us, the food was incredible, more of a healthy menu than most all-inclusives. We always had exceptional service and cant wait to come back. We had so many amazing servers that there are too many to name!!! We felt like royalty. Yes, we do tip well, but it makes for an amazing vacation, and the servers deserve it for their exceptional service. We can not find service like this anywhere in Canada. Check in was simple, grabbing a drink at the bar and having the clerk come visit us there to fill out minimal paperwork. Then it was off to our suite. One of the reasons that we like this resort so much, is the quietness in the suites (as they are condo style) you dont hear any noise in the hallways. Having the second washroom is a bonus, as well as having the washer and dryer. The only disappointment that we found this trip is that breakfast is no longer served in INSU. We loved sitting there with our morning coffee on the last trip. The sunday brunch was amazing!!!! Overall, we had a fabulous trip, and def will be returning in the future.

Room Tip: We were on the main floor, which was fine for us. No ocean view, but it was very quiet.

My wife sprang a surprise vacation on me last month. She had a work assignment in Mexico to scout out this location for a business award retreat later in the year. As soon as she arrived she was in awe and called to let me know. Boy was I envious. Anyway in almost the same breath she said a limo would be picking me up the next morning at 5:30. Less than 24 hours later I arrived and wow. Reminded me of my first time at Disneyworld. Totally in awe. My wife was working away from the hotel but the friendly concierge knew I was arriving and looked after me. After a warm introduction and a couple of cold cervezas he showed me to the room. I turned on the television and lo and behold the Leafs and Sabres were just coming on. I looked out the balcony and what a sight: the well manicured grounds, view of the Pacific and a slow moving beautiful sunset. This was just a hint of what the next 7 days provided. I could go on and on but without sounding like a major shareholder in the place, it was as advertised. Note that I did not look at the website until today, 3 weeks after my return. I must say that the video on the website is not embellished. I keep pinching myself about everything about the place. You have to excuse me now as I have to tend to my wife's todo list in case I get another surprise phone call.

“Awesome Place to Stay”

We had a awesome experience at the Marival Residences and World Spa with our all inclusive stay. The food at Lemon Grass was to die for. The staff at Brunello Wine Bar were pleasant and our drinks were always replenished. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and view at the Insú Sky Lounge. The breakfasts that were served outside were great. The pools were clean and will maintained. The atmosphere at the Omaggio International Restaurant was relaxed and enjoyable. Having our own area on the beach was great. 7 days is not a long enough stay for this wonderful resort. We may return in October for our 30th wedding anniversary.

“Sets the Bar High, and Delivers!”

Beautiful property and the staff was superb. We stayed Jan 27 to Feb 03 2012.
The weather was a perfect 30 degrees (85F).

Check-in
As soon as we got off the bus we were seated in Brunello and given a cold drink and towel. Roberto let us finish our drinks then proceeded to show around hotel and take us to our room. No check-in stress, great start. We were given a bottom floor room, which was not acceptable, as we had asked for anything but bottom floor. Hotel was fully booked but they were able to move us on day 2 to a 3rd floor room in building 1 which worked out great. Thanks.

The Room
Everything is as advertised or better. Our maid, whom we never saw, did an outstanding job, very thorough, always restocked the great l’Occitane bath supplies, etc. Best maid service we ever had at an all-incl. Washer/dryer worked great. If the turn down service or mini bar restock could not be done because we had the privacy sign on – they slip a paper under the door to tell you that they came by – and to call concierge if we need anything. Nice touch.

Loved sitting on that extra large balcony, great furniture. Wifi worked fine all around resort, but you have to re-enter passwords every time you want to log back in – no big deal. Skype also worked perfect.

The Food
We were a little worried that there were no real buffets, but we always had food whenever we wanted – and the food is really good. There was a buffet for breakfast/lunch by the pool. Insu was great for drinks and appetizer, and sunset viewing. Ommagio and Lemmon grass were always very good. The house wine was very drinkable.

The Beach
Even though it is not on the beach, it tuned out to be not such a big deal. The shuttle always came quickly and took you 5 min down the road to the Marival sister resort.
The beach club service was very impressive, someone came by every ½ hr or so asking if they could get you something, drinks, food, sunscreen, magazines… (the food was really good here too). Nice comfy lounge chairs, and the beach vendors were very respectful if you said no thanks.

Service
This is what made me sad to leave – the staff there are really well trained – from the waiters putting napkins on your lap (Hector, Jesus, Gil…), to the very helpful concierges (Carlos, Alexandra…) the front desk staff was always smiling and polite. Kudos to management to hiring great people.

This is the first time we have ever been to a resort that we really want to go back to. 361 sleeps left!
