“Hotel is not bad, but they need to work on their service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2009

My family and I stayed for two nights during a Mexican long weekend so the hotel was 100% full. The hotel is well situated, with direct access to the beach, and about 10 minutes south of downtown Veracruz, or about 5 minutes north of Boca del Rio. It's a relatively new hotel, and the pool would be one of the best features, being large, and basically right on the beach. Every room has an ocean view. However, when we booked no one told us that there are rooms at the end of each hallway with better balconies - there was no attempt to upgrade us to a better room on the phone when we made the reservation.

The major lack service we had was that our room was not cleaned until about 5 or 6 pm on the day we were there, even though we had left the sign on the door at 9am asking for the room to be made up. We called housekeeping and asked at the front desk before the room was finally cleaned.

Another suggestion would be for the hotel to install ice machines on each floor. Hard to believe that one is paying about MXP$1700 per night for a beach hotel in a warm climate and there is no ice machine on each floor. To get ice, one must go down to the bar on the main floor and ask for it. Both times I went took about 10 minutes, as there was no one at the bar either time. There's an ice bucket in every room, but no convenient way to get ice.

Kudos to Marconi, the bellhop. We asked for a folding bed to be brought to our room, and he ensured it happened promptly, and stopped me in the lobby the next day to check and ensure everything was alright. He was the only staff member that really made us feel special during our stay.

All in all, we would probably go back, but after having stayed at the Holiday Inn in Boca del Rio, I can't say the Camino Real is worth the extra 700 or so pesos per night.

“Excellent hotel, nice location, great food, extremely clean, beach, good service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2009

This hotel offers an excellent location, close to almost all attractions in Veracruz, with an excellent service you can be at the beach, at the pool, at the restaurants, and you will always feel at home. In its restaurant you can find a variety of great mexican food, as well as international dishes.

“Very good value for the money”

We had junior suite 1601 from May 1 to 3, 2009 during the Mexico City health contingency. Great room with fantastic views. Cool without air conditioning but then we had condensation so had to turn it back on. Nice hotel. Very good service at front desk and from bellmen. Decent breakfast buffet. Very clean pool and nice and good atmosphere. Nice beach. Good location - cheap in a taxi to go anyplace of interest. Veracruz really has charm in my mind and I love it. Cannot believe it that it was probably ten years ago that I was last there and it did not change a bit other than lots of new condos - best restaurant in town remains Villa Rica.

“Nice Hotel, little expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2009

We stayed for two days, the room was clean but it was a Little bit small, the hotel has direct Access to the beach that although it was clean from garbage it had a lot of seaweed, we were able to walk about 50 meters inside the sea and it was not depth. The hotel is at the beginning of the hotel strip so restaurants are far, you need to walk 10 minutes or use the car (it had very hot 38C).
Food and beverage in the hotel was expensive, about 11 Dollars only for a hamburger (without anything) in the pool.
The kids club is not very good, my kids that usually stay in the kids club just stayed for a couple of hours and then came back saying that they are bored.

“Very enjoyable stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2007

We stayed at the Camino Real, May 15 - May 21. 2007. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff attentive -- and quick to deal with any questions or concerns. For example, the TV remote was not working -- the man was at our room and problem solved within ten minutes.
Mid week, the hotel was quiet, catering to business travellers, so the pool area was very quiet. Come the weekend, Mexican tourists arrived in big numbers, so there was lots of people and lots of kids at the pool. By Monday, all was quiet again.
All the rooms face the pool and the Gulf -- so everyone has a great view from their balcony. It is about a ten to fifteen minute pleasant walk to the beautiful Mall of the Americas -- a large shopping center.
Steps from the front door, you can hop a bus to downtown Veracruz for 50 cents -- or a cab from the hotel front door to the Malecon downtown is six dollars.
We did not know quite what to expect in Veracruz and area -- it turned out to be a real treat. Be pepared that few speak English and you may be the only non Mexican anywhere around most of the time. To us that was the charm of the place -- a super vacation away from the usual tourist Mexico of Cancun, etc.
We would stay again at the Camino without hesitation.

  • Liked — Excellent spotless room, great view!
  • Disliked — Expensive restaurant (but there are MANY other resturants around.)
