“No complaints!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

The hotel was clean and the staff was very helpful everytime we needed a taxi or more towels. We only paid $80 a night for a room with two double beds. I would definately go back. The only bad thing I could say is that It's not in walking distance to any restaurants. A short taxi ride for less than 50 pesos will take you to the near by restaurants.

“Horrible experience-staff & manager”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2009

Based on the favorable reviews on tripadvisor, I booked this hotel for us on behalf of our company for a nearby conference we had. I personally have preferred staying at Radisson's above all others anywhere I travel in the world and have been loyal to them for decades. However, this one bad seed of a hotel in Leon now puts Radisson at the bottom of my list forever and I'll explain why. I have to say of all the hotels I have stayed at in the world, this has the most obnoxious front desk and security staff I, and literally everyone in our party has ever encountered. Unless you want to be insulted and want to be harassed by security after reporting that you had things stolen from your room, you should look elsewhere.

First, the good. The restaurant was high quality. The food was fresh and all the restaurant personnel, especially the wait staff, were super-friendly and went out of their way to help. Also, the maids were all really nice and accomodating as well.

The problem with this hotel is the manager and the front desk. Period. This hotel is undergoing renovations to expand and is clearly attempting to cater to the U.S. patron but falls whoafully short because of the front desk personnel and the manager. Our problems started when we arrived. The front desk personnel are very young females who are extremely catty, gossipy, laughing at their U.S. patrons, flirting, making jokes about them, and insulting them all the time. Apparently, they believe that simply because U.S. citizens are speaking English, that none of us speak Spanish, yet everyone in our group speaks fluent Spanish and understood every single insult the front desk personnel told each other--right in front of us. What happened was that the young female who works in their computer/internet room, who is from Texas, and who decided to flirt independently with all the men in our company when they went in to use the computer/internet. All of them were clearly married and uninterested in her, but her flirtation was beyond overt and aggressive. She gave each of us sob stories about how her boyfriend beat her then left her in Texas, which is why she returned to Leon and now had a boyfriend she did not like, but she needed more money to return to Texas and would do "anything" to get it. She kept talking to each of us anytime we would go into the computer room, often touching us. One of my colleagues had pulled out and opened his briefcase in the computer room while he was entering all his passport and other information into expedia to get an earlier flight home due to a family crisis. Another colleague walked by the computer room and stuck his head in to tell him they were going to the restaurant across the hall and asked if he wanted anything before that morning's meeting. He said he didn't, but then changed his mind and got up to try and catch him to tell him what to get for him for breakfast. After he returned, all his identification and wallet had been stolen from where he left it. He was only gone literally 10-20 seconds according to all accounts, and the only one who was in the room was the girl from Texas with her sob story and flirtations not being returned.

This was immediately reported to the front desk personnel and a manager was asked for. Incidentally, throughout the entire trip, the front desk personnel were thought to be laughing and making jokes about us BECAUSE of the girl in the computer room as she would always go back to them and gossip and who knows what this girl would say--probably to preempt any report to the manager about her non-stop flirtatious activity ("flirtatious" is a kind portrayal; most would call such a girl who repeatedly offers $ in exchange for something else another word). My colleague waited over 5 hours for the manager as he apparently is never on site according to the rest of the staff as no one from the Radisson corporate offices ever checks up on this hotel. Every time he asked again for the manager, he was told the manager had been contacted and knew of the report (and that my colleague had already booked a flight to leave that afternoon), but that he hadn't come in yet. Different front desk personnel advised more than 20 times during this 5 hours that they had personally contacted the manager and he knew everything and was "on his way in".

After 5 hours, my colleague and 4 more of us advised the front desk we were filing a police report and contacting the consulates office. We were outraged and it was clear precisely who had stolen everything and that the manager was playing a game where he was purposely avoiding us in order to make sure my colleague went home and was not there to make the report as his wife had gone into labor and he had to immediately return. When we tried to contact to the police we were physically blocked from doing so by one particular security person in a yellow shirt. He literally kept blocking us and telling us to wait for the manager (as he kept talking to someone on the walkie-talkie). Note: one of the wait staff later told us that this security guy was THE BOYFRIEND of the girl in the computer room and they had this scam going on and we weren't the only ones who complained about her stealing things and flirting and that they tried to trap U.S. citizens like this.

When the manager finally arrived, it was clear that he had already talked at length with the computer girl, her security boyfriend, and that he himself was somehow in on their scheme. For a manager at a hotel of this caliber to only be able to speak Spanish, especially in view of the fact that they are trying to expand to become a conference center and THE hotel for visiting U.S. business people, is atrocious and VERY shortsighted of Radisson. Many educated people in Mexico speak fluent English and there is no shortage of trained hotel managers who do so. How exactly is the Radisson supposed to cater to U.S. citizens at this hotel with their new addition and corresponding business model here if they don't even have a hotel manager who speaks a lick of English? What is Radisson thinking? So this "manager" who is apparently never actually "at" the hotel, and who was clearly in on this scam of theft and prostitution, proceeded to tell us that we could not file a police report and that "he had to do it" according to mexican law. That was absurd. We advised we were leaving and then he and his security guard (the boyfriend) blocked us from leaving and insisted we stay and that he would "take care of us" and begged us to "give him a chance". We repeatedly advised we wanted to leave. He wouldn't allow it. We gave up trying to talk to him. He refused to do anything about the computer girl, who according to all the Radisson standards I know, should have been terminated on the spot. She clearly stole everything and this was clearly an organized scam.

We went back to our rooms and 2 of us tried to dial out to get the police, yet each time the front desk manager blocked the call, came on the line and intercepted it, and told us that he wanted to talk to us again at the front desk. We gave up trying to call the police. We simply wanted to leave the hotel and they weren't letting us.

We stayed the rest of the day, waited until the middle of the night, then snuck out when there was no one at the front desk and just an elderly man as a security guard.

None of us will ever use Radisson again and if you are smart, you'll avoid this Radisson Poliforum, Leon, like the plague!

“Wonderful”

When our company decided to host a business conference for about 20 people in Leon, we looked for a hotel that would be nice but affordable. The Radison Poliforum fit the bill! Admittedly, I was a bit nervous before we arrived considering that we only paid about $65 USD per night. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. The hotel was modern and immaculately clean. The staff was absolutely top notch, seeing to our every need and going out of their way to make us comfortable. The onsite restaurant was so-so (standard hotel food) but the wait staff was pleasant. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Leon. It's a short walk or cab ride to most of the downtown sites (and the hotel was more than happy to haul us around in their shuttle, if available).

The conference facilities were small, but perfect for our needs. Once again, the staff was extremely accomodating and ensured that our snacks/coffee were fresh and replensished.

It`s a great hotel. Just a few steps from the main comercial and business areas in Leon, the rooms extremely confortables and the attention of the staff, wonderful.

  • Liked — the hotel is confortable, perfect location, and the staff is really kind.
  • Disliked — maybe the swimming pool near the restaurant...
