My husband and I just returned home after a 2-week holiday in Mexico. We spent 7 nights at the Fiesta Americana in Leon and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We booked our room through fiestaamericana---, which allowed us to choose amenities such as extra pillow, quiet room and non smoking. Our rate was US $130 per night. I was there for medical reasons so needed to rest, so we were glad to have requested quiet room b/c the lobby has live music most nights to wee hours in the morning.
The room was very cozy with ice cold AC, a mini bar/fridge, small dining table, plenty of chairs and a beautifully stocked bathroom. We were delighted that house keeping came twice a day - once in the morning and again at 6pm when they left us chocolates on our pillows.
Each morning, we couldn't wait to get to breakfast. The lobby restaurant boasts a fabulous buffet with freshly squeezed juices, homemade pastries, made to order eggs and other delights. The weekend cost was US $13 per person and on the weekdays it was US $9 per person.
When we needed a taxi our first morning, we were pleasantly surprised to be seated in a comfortable suburban. Our driver, Luis Angel, was so accommodating and gave us his personal cell number so that we could call him for pick up or drop off at any time during our stay.
We had room service a few nights which was very good and not too expensive. We had dinner one night at the hotel's Italian restaurant which was fantastic.
The hotel has a spa (touch the "spa" button on the elevator and you'll go right there) and fitness room. I had my hair washed and styled but was disappointed to learn they do not take credit cards or allow charges to your room so we had to cancel our facial and massage appointments.
They have a conference/business room and charge US $3.50 per half hour for internet use.
The hotel is within walking distance of the "shoe mall", many fabulous restaurants and a movie theater. A 10-min cab ride will take you to Plaza Mayor - an upscale shopping mall with European/American stores, restaurants and a movie theater (Spanish subtitles) - and downtown which is full of hisotry, shoppiing and dining. I especially enjoyed going into the cathedral which was built in the early 20s.
