“Charming, in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2011

We travel in Mexico a lot, We like hotels that have character, where the staff is friendly and helpful, that are clean, that have plenty of hot water, and that have reading lights for the beds. We prefer to be in the historic centers. We do not require the latest in American- style facilities or conveniences. Great character and cool places to stay are key to us. The Posada Mariquinta in Xalapa was a total winner for us. It is located in an old colonial home with a lovely garden court around which additions containing guest rooms have been added. Also, the Posada has the building next door, with additional rooms. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious and nicely appointed with a big closet, sideboard for unpacking/storing things, and a table and chairs and a refrigerator! Our room had French doors opening on to a small balcony overlooking the city. The bath was compact with good hot water (but low flow). It is in a terrific location two blocks from the main drag -Zamorra, four blocks from the Parque Juarez and central to most everything one might want to see in Xalapa.

“reasonable priced excellent inn with great service, quiet with great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2010

My wife and I have stayed here for the last 4 years for a month at a time. We stay in one of the apartments so I have no comment about the individual rooms. Our apartment is perfect for our needs since we like to make our own food from time to time. The inn is very quiet although a few minutes walk from the heart of downtown. The outside door leads into a beautiful little garden from which the apartments radiate. With maid service, telephone answering machine and reasonable and excellent laundry service, la Posada can't be beat. Our present apartment has two flat-screen TV's, one for each floor. Jean-Luc and his staff are very accommodating. It's our home away from home when in Xalapa. Wouldn't think of staying any place else.

“not what it seems”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2010

For the good news:
The owners were very understanding when we were so delayed by our flights that it took us 2 extra days to get to Xalapa. We e-mailed them the minute our flights started to go haywire and kept them informed of our delays as they were happening. They did not charge us for the two nights that we did not use our room. Thank you.
For the bad news:
Unfortunately, we were so disappointed in the inn and the town that we cut our stay short. Again they did not charge us for the nights that we did not stay. We were prepared to pay for changing our mind. This might have been a very nice inn a few decades ago. It looks nice enough outside and in the garden. The interiors are another story. They look faded and used up. The sheets look thin and decades old. The mattresses are very stiff, and the worst offenders are the pillows. I would not use the pillows. You can have coffee in your room if you want, for a fee. Why not have a room price that includes the price of coffee ? It seemed like a quaint idea to have to go to the local bar/restaurant for breakfast, but no, not a good idea.
The innkeepers seem nice enough, but I am under the impression that they became tired of running the place and nothing has been upgraded for decades.

“Quiet but centralized”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2010

Stayed here for one night. Beautiful grounds, I had a nice and quiet comfortable room in the back. They have WIFI and laundry service also for an extra charge. The place is also very secure since the front entrance is always locked -- then give you a code to punch in on a panel outside which will open the door for you. Is within walking distance to the parque central. There is a nice little chinese restaurant just down the street.

“La Posada La Mariquinta is a charming place, comfortable and close to everything.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2009

In March this year I stayed at the Posada La Mariquinta, in Jalapa, Veracruz; an enchanting place that offers to the traveler a great range of rooms, suites, mini-suites and mini-apartments (Estancias). I love the fact that the prices have a sliding scale down and the more you stay, the less you pay. I enjoyed its excellent location a few blocks from the park, market, cafes, and restaurants. The staff is friendly and very helpful.

The Mariquinta is an historic building, its construction dates from the eighteen century; however, the aesthetic renovations and upgrades are very well integrated.
As the old Portón opens from the street, you step into a tall hall that has very old pavers; after a short walk, you will find yourself in a garden, with trees and colorful flowers that seems like a “V.” The rooms are on both sides. At the end of the garden, on the right hand side in the second floor there are two rooms; that is a very secluded section
- the only ones that disrespected the silence - were the hummingbirds, who every morning were coming to drink the honey from the myrtles next to my window. I loved the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere that La Mariquinta offers.

The rooms were very clean, simple and practical, with all the amenities, Internet, TV-Cable, telephone, refrigerator. The estancias have a full kitchen; I am planning to take an Estancia in my next trip.

I would like to thank the staff for their efficiency; all of them were wonderful!
I loved my sojourn at La Posada La Mariquinta and I am planning to go back very soon.
