Upon checking in at a nearby hotel ($89/night) and finding it unsatisfactory, we walked up the street for dinner, keeping an eye open for another lodging possibility. Just a block up the street we came across the Hotel Salmones.
To be honest, neither the lobby nor front desk area were particularly impressive. However, as we were inquiring about rates (only $36 for two!), a very nice young man stepped up and asked if he could be of assistance, so we asked to see a room.
The room was exceptionally clean, nicely appropriated with a comfortable king bed, dresser, table and two chairs, television, ceiling fan and an especially nice bathroom w/shower, which appeared to have been recently refurbished. We promptly made reservations to move to Salmones the following morning.
Owing to a very unfortunate event at the first hotel, we walked out in the middle of the night, and went straight to the Salmones, where we were politely welcomed, and checked in.
It was our good fortune that the same young man was present to assist with luggage, and the room we previewed was available.
The Hotel staff is helpful and pleasant. I might add that two free bottles of water were placed in our room each day (the other hotel charged $1USD per bottle).
You will find a restaurant just off the lobby. Certainly not the best in the city for service, but the food was decent and well prepared.
For a comfortable, quiet and inexpensive rest you can’t beat the Salmones.
