We stayed with our family for the 3rd year in a row at Las Gaviotas through Sea Side Rentals in Puerto Penasco. We were sadly disappointed this year and won't be returning. The first condo we had was outright dirty. There were dead/dying cockroaches and crickets everywhere. Many of the "amenities" did not work - cable, regular TV, DVD player, stove burners, washer/dryer, fridge, etc. In some cases this might not be a huge problem but if you take your food (like we did) and expect to be able to cook, it's a problem. So if you don't take food, you have to drive to go into town and eat overpriced food. The pool was GREEN and algae-ridden. We couldn't use it.
So we asked for repairs to be done and they said they would get right on it. We returned to the condo at the end of the day and nothing had been done. So we asked to be moved to another condo. They showed us two. The first one REEKED of smoke & we saw more dead bugs. Enough said. The second one had a faint smell of smoke but was a little bit better. We moved but it wasn't MUCH better. The second bedroom was FREEZING at all times. The doors did not close, much less lock. It was still fairly dirty. We washed dishes before using them.
On the positive side the beach was beautiful - warm water and overall clean. Being outside was certainly a joy. There are vendors on the beach if you want to buy food, bathing suits, hammocks, etc. Lots of shells to collect but be careful of broken glass and other trash that people carelessly leave. Bring water socks to wear on the beach. We spent most of our days at the Mayan Palace resort and enjoyed ourselves immensely.
Overall we had fun because we were together and had a good time. We made the best of it. But we prefer to be in a place that provides all they advertise. We expected better customer service. We will be staying at the Mayan Palace in the future.
