“Circus atmopshere full of distractions”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2006

The person who wrote how great this place is must be an employee cause the rooms are awful. We were here in October during school break. Our room was full of dirty broken furniture and the maid service was poor. You can't communictae with the staff if you have a problem and they overcharged our credit card. You get exactly what you pay for here. Low price AND low budget. The loud noise and music was 24/7. It was impossible to relax and listen to the sea at night with everytthing going on. The outside is nice but it does not make up for the smell of the rooms and the circus going on around the pools and exercise room. Distractions like the music, outside movie and even a band at night make the the ocean impossible to enjoy. We were constantly bothered by some young unprofesional lookingkid who was taking orders for drinks around the pool. Totally . Clean up the rooms and lose the distractions and this place would be great.

“Can't wait to go again!”

Well, our family has just returned from Rocky Point, and man did we have a wonderful trip! I made our reservations through Sea Side Reservations a couple of months ago, and when we arrived we were greeted the best staff, they were so friendly and helpful. They answered all of our questions and we were on our way to our Condo at the Princessa. We stayed in a gorgeous 2 bedroom unit, I was very surprised at how well our condo was equipped they had every thing we needed to cook our breakfast and lunches. Plus the washer and dryer and great to have for our bathing suits and towels! We chose to sample the restaurant at night in town. We did run out of bread and went to the connivance store located on the property and bought more. The grounds at the Pricessa are so gorgeous the pools were clean and sparkled along with the green grass. The beach was clean and flat making us never wanting to go back indoors, in fact the only time we did was to eat and sleep. Oh I am so ready to go back to Puerto Penasco, I think I am going to call Sea Side and make another reservation after Christmas so I can take some time to relax after the busy Holiday Season.

By the way if you want to make your reservations, we used Seasidemexico to book!

“Princesa hotel staff is awful!”

We went down to Rocky Pointe for the biker rally as we do every year with a bunch f friends. Several of us stayed at Princesa de Penasco and others stayed at Sonoran Spa since they are located next to each other. What a difference between the two. Check in at Princesa was awful. The staff was so disorganized. Our first room smelled of vomit and it took over two hours to convince the hotel staff to move us to another room. The room we were moved into had a strong body odor smell to it and the furnishings was in terrible shape but we had no where else to go. Parking at Princesa was terrible. It was a busy weekend so the place was packed. We stayed in a D unit and couldn’t find anywhere to park. During the day the hotel employees park their junky smelly cars along the back wall taking up a ton of spaces. The employees stand around and eat and socialize at their cars so we had to deal with that also. Add that with the fact that the condo above and next to us had at least 12 people each staying in it, the noise was awful. All of their cars made the parking situation even worse. Cant the hotel owners see this and fix it? If that wasn’t enough a six pack of Coors Light was $8 at the Princesa store. Their inventory was awful as they were out of almost everything. Ice cream bars were almost $4 each and pre-mixed six ounce cocktails at the swimming pool were $5 with tip. What a rip off. Sonoran Spa was completely different. Our friends had no issues checking in. Their condo was spotless and there was available parking everywhere. Didn’t see any junky cars in their parking lot which made me feel safer and seem like I was at a classier hotel. There little store was neat and the shelves were full. We have stayed at Princesa for years. Each year things seem to get worse and dirtier. Nobody seems to care or put thought into what they are doing. The incompetent hotel staff couldn’t even deliver a new bottle of water even though I called it in seven times. We are staying at Sonoran Spa for now on. Their hotel staff was much more professional and seemed to care we were there.

  • Liked — Nothing. Our rooms were smelly and the furnishings were in terrible shape.
  • Disliked — The noise, the hotel staff, parking, nobody seemed to care about the place
  • Tips/Secrets — Stay away from Princesa until things get back to where they were several years ago.

“Smelly and dark, but fun”

The Princesa is definately one of the nicer resorts of Sandy Beach; however, it's clear just how unprepared the town for future growth. I knew something was up the first day when the entire resort smelled like sewage. The second night our power was out for about three hours and we had no running water for 12+ hours. We then had no hot water for the remaining three days. That said, the premisses were extremely maintained and clean, and the pools are great! The spot is definately not for the party type as there are only two spots to get a drink: the Agave Grill, about the size of my bathroom, and the gym. Yes, you heard me right, the gym. It was rather amusing sipping my margarita and watching those obsesively fit vacationers sweating their butts off on the treadmills.

P.S. We were there the weekend of the 4th of July, the same weekend as the Mexican voting. THEY DO NOT SELL ALCHOHOL THIS WEEKEND ANYWHERE IN PUERTO PENASCO. Luckly, we made a stop and stocked up on Tecate on the way in from Tuscon.

“Well worth the $$$”

My wife and I stayed here for about 4 days during the week. The place was near deserted, which we loved. It was almost like having our own private pool and beach. We were told weekends however are a different story, and in fact when we left on Friday we could notice an increase in the nuber of guests.
We were in AZ for a wedding and decided to extend our vacation and get to the beach. Rocky Point was the perfect place. We didn't want to drive so we hired a service [-----]to take us there. These folks were great, they gave us a ton of information about the area and even waited while we stopped for groceries on the way. If you need transportation to Rocky Point these guys are the way to go.
After a lackluster check-in at the Princesa, I steped out onto the balcony of our room and I was instantly impressed. We had a great view of the beach and all 3 pools. The pools were clean, but only about 5' at the deepest. The beach was great except there was a fair ammount of trash in the sand (food wrappers and such) which was a shame. There were also a lot of local venders wandering the beach but over all they were very polite. The condo itself was reasonably clean, well furnished and had everything we needed. We saved a lot of money by cooking most of our meals in the room. But if you'd prefer to eat out there is no shortage of eateries in town. You can even pick up fresh seafood at the market in town. But you will need transportation (there are plenty of cabs) since it's a few miles away from the Princesa.
The only let down was that we had hoped to do some SCUBA diving (my main reason for getting to the ocean) but it would have cost a fortune in cab rides. So if you don't have your own car don't expect to dive here. Also if you intend to exercise during your stay consider running along the beach (which was awesome). The "fitness center" was in the corner of a bar and all the equipment was abused and boarderline dangerous to use.

Overall the resort was clean and well maintained. The location is not my first choice for a vacation spot, but if I find myself in the area again I'd for sure go back to the Princesa.
For the price it surpassed my expectations by far.
