My family and I stayed at Penasco Del Sol over the Christmas/New Year holiday. Our room was comfortable, clean and the patio overlooked the pool, Jacuzzi, and beach. While the pool was active, we never were crowded. We stretched out on the cabanas at poolside to read while the kids played. The pool is a few steps near the beach. The breakfast buffet had a variety of foods – eggs, vegetables, nachos, fruits, more - something for all of us. The staff was friendly, helpful. The surf recedes early in the day to return by midday and we had a safe feeling walking it each time. In fact, we had no concern toward security during our entire stay. We enjoyed ourselves so much we plan to return on our next holiday.

My husband have stayed at Penasco Del Sol on and off for the past 5 years and I would absolutely recommend it. There are the high points, the location is the best; free secured parking, walking distance to shops, stores and several restaurants, the pool area is beautiful and all the cabanas for napping, reading or people watching are great. The lobby, bar and rooms are all well appointed and comfortable and the price is better than other complexes. The downside; I don't think the walls have any insulation so it is loud when crowded party revelers are there, if you don't want the noise, don't go during school breaks. The property is also not beach front but rather sits on a bluff and you need to walk to the side of the property to get to the beach, at low tide it's very rocky. I do recall a serve failure when I booked via their phone service, I was promised a mini fridge in the room and it wasn't there. When I complained they offered nothing other than to say they were sorry I was I received incorrect information. I still feel it's a great property, but really depends on what you're after. If you want quiet, go the Las Conchas and rent a house but then you will have to give up convenience or stay in a condo at Sandy Beach and pay a lot more.

This is a great hotel right on the beach! We enjoyed walking along the beach; however, there are a lot of dead fish on the beach so watch out!
The staff treated us very well and were able to answer all questions we had. We had no language barriers.
The hotel restaurant was good and safe. Parking was easy but not secure.
There isn't much else near the restaurant and any shopping or restaurants will likely have to be driven to.
Overall, loved this hotel as it was nice, clean and comfortable.

Penasco Del Sol is a large resort like hotel on the beach. They have a nice pool area, big beach, full service restaurant, full service bar, security guards, nice lobby, many of the staff are friendly and it is easy to find a bilingual one if you are challenged with Spanish. It is an above average hotel for Rocky Point. It is the nicest of the downtown hotels but not as nice as some of the other full resorts outside of downtown. It is clean. Lots of tile and no carpet which is good for Mexico and at the beach. The location is mixed, it is at the end of Calle 13 which has lots of rather unrefined joints including dive bars, taco stands, nightclubs, liquor stores, marginal hotels, a variety of people watching from the best to the worst. If that's what you want for nightlfe after getting into the spicyness of it all you walk home to something clean and safe. The sound proofing in the rooms is not the best, then with the hard floors, hard furniture and hard partying people I was woken up every night. I never could get connected to the internet, I never found a concierge, car alarms going off woke me up several times. The hotel can get groups in and it is worth knowing if you are comfortable with the current gang. Like the motorcyclists for the Rocky Point Rally. If you enjoy Harley's and Harley people and noise you would have loved it as a great hang out. If however that group is not for you it would be a very bad time to be here. If you are looking for true piece and quiet or traveling with children another location might suit you. Good for adults, good for groups. Overall score 8 out of 10.
