“Plumtree House in the pretty village of Brigsteer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2009

My wife and I spent our holiday this year in Scotland. Travelling from Bristol we decided to break the journey north and booked an overnight stay at Plumtree House because it is near to the Lake District but convenient for the M6.
The house is in the lovely village of Brigsteer. We had a large bedroom with en-suite bathroom and great views from the window. A walk from the front door took us up to Scout Scar which has superb panoramic views of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
We were very well looked after at Plumtree House and very much hope to visit again in the future.

“Friendly guest house.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2009

My wife and I together with our two friends and our dogs spent a great weekend at Plumtree House. Our friends chose the guest house as they were getting married at Kendal registry Office.
The village of Brigsteer is beautiful and has an excellent local pub which serves really good food. The village is ideally situated giving access to the Lakes and the Coast and with lovely scenery on the doorstep.
The proprietors Mike and Maureen could not have been more welcoming and went out of their way to ensure that our friends Wedding weekend was extra special. Nothing was too much trouble. The cooked Breakfast was as good as any I have had.
Maureen was happy to point out a number of walks that could be started straight from the front door of the house.
The rooms were ample size (en-suite and with digital TV ) the beds comfortable and the views from the window were great. I have nothing negative to say about this place and will be staying there again next time we are in that part of the country.

the b&b accomadtion was just perfect for myself and my daughter with plenty of space in the room we booked. the owners are very helpful in every way, nothing is too much trouble. the b&b is situated in rolling countryside with great veiws, ample off road parking. It is great as a base to drive from to get to windermere, kendal as the main road is not far away. Really is in the ideal place.

“A really excellent place to stay, good location for seeing the lakes, great views and very welcoming!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2009

We stayed here for three nights to have a leisurely break away and put our feet up, and we weren't disappointed in the slightest!

Plumtree House is a very attractive B&B in Brigsteer about 3 miles out from Kendal. Since we don't drive we got a taxi from kendal train station to Brigsteer which only took about 10 minutes, or could be walked if you're up for it! So it is very accessible.

Maureen and Mike are very welcoming and helpful, we've been there twice now and the rooms we've stayed in are very comfortable and have very nice views over the local countryside. Plumtree House is much more personal and homey than a big-name hotel chain in a main city, which is why we chose to stay there!

The full English breakfast was excellent and looked forward to every morning, and there are plenty of other breakfast options if you don't want the full thing.

Overall, Plumtree House is a welcoming inviting place which is well run in our opinion, we enjoyed both of our stays immensely and it definitely won't be our last! If you want a good access point to the main lakes and also a nice relaxing place to stay then this is higly recommended! Also for anybody who just wants to walk around at their leisure and explore the local country and woods, there's plenty to do! :)

“Pleasant B&B”

Stayed at Plum Tree House for one night on the way through the area; booked it via the local Tourist Information phoneline.

The B&B is situated in a small village about 5 min drive outside Kendal. Only suitable if you have a car, but nice and quiet with lovely views.

The B&B is quite old-fashioned in terms of decor, but clean and comfortable, and we were made to feel very welcome by the hosts. I have to say I thought it was a little overpriced compared to the fantastic B&B we then went on to stay at in Windermere, which was cheaper!

  • Liked — Cleanliness; table & chairs in bedroom; corkscrew & bottle opener!
  • Disliked — Decor is very outdated.
