The correct address for Hotel Progreso is Ignacio Aldama 415. This is
a very old hotel in the very old historic center of San Luis de Potosi. The cost was 290 pesos (about $29 USD) per night. They would not negotiate for a weekly rate as it was during the high season. You don't need a reservation as this is a low end hotel. We checked out about 5 hotels before choosing Progreso. The others were either nasty nasty (Hotel Alameda next to the Alameda bus area) or the same level of accomodation for a higher price (Hotel Del Rio & Napoli). No one speaks English so know some Spanish before you come here. The hotel has old world charm along with old world dinginess. Look at multiple rooms before choosing one, they are different and have different furnishings. Very basic rooms with wood floors and 12 foot ceilings. Take a room which opens to the inside as the outside facing rooms will bring you much closer to the disco across the street than you want to be. The inside rooms have adequate ventilation and are quiet. The beds and linens were clean but wear shower shoes in the bathrooms and watch out for the cucarauches after dark. You can get a fan for your room but you have to ask for it in the morning. There is a great family run cafe downstairs called Las Corotas. Even after we moved out of the hotel we continued
to eat our meals there. The city historic center is lovely with lots of plazas within a few blocks of each other and some beautiful churches but other than that we were dissappointed with the city. It isn't set up for tourism or visitors.
