Arrived to find the main lobby totally derelict with generators, drills and hammers working away. Rather than re-locate reception (which was a small table with a terminal) they decided to place it in the center of the noise surrounded by wires dangling from the ceiling and cables strewn over the floor. We had to yell to make ourselves heard. Unfortunately the stay was prepaid otherwise I would have left immediately.
We got a coupon for a free drink at the "Lobby Bar" but there was nowhere to sit down and drink it so we passed. Even in the main restaurant the noise was deafening apart from the fact that it was 100 degrees and no a/c. Food and service was OK but still an unpleasant experience.
Rooms were well-equipped and clean but the wireless internet only worked sporadically ("tree in the way, sir" - I guess the tree must have kept moving). The grounds were poorly kept with many of the trees dying. Paint outside our room was peeling off. Pool looked beautiful but was freezing - in one of the hottest months of the year. What's the point of a pool if you can't swim in it??
Our complaints about the noisy lobby were met with:
"Think of us, we've had to put up with it for 2 months" or "It was even worse two days ago" or "It will be nice when it's finished" - none of which we found very helpful.
OK, I know remodelling is sometimes necessary but it should have been handled better. Funnelling guests through an area with loose cables, dust and construction everywhere is not acceptable. The front desk could have been moved into a function room at least. This really was an example of very poor management.
