Gahh, where to start? We came here after reading reviews on hostelworld (I think) and finding out it was £5/night. On arrival we dumped our bags in reception and waited for someone to attend to us. There were a group of lads by the pool but no one paid us any attention. After a couple of minutes I approached the group, asking who was in charge. A cocky, nonchalent American guy slowly stood up and asked what we wanted, as if we'd rocked up at his private home looking for a room. He reluctantly showed us a room (at the back on the left) and told us "it's clean" in a "this'll do, god knows what else you're going to ask me for" tone. We asked about payment and he claimed that he, in fact, was only helping out and was "not allowed to handle money", so we'd have to wait until his 'colleague' got back.
That was as far as his customer service went; he left us to it and went back to his mates by the pool (which, by the way, looks like it hasn't been cleaned in far too long and smells strangely of vinegar, the water leaving a slightly oily residue). We gave ourselves a tour of the place, which was similarly grotty. The kitchen was reminiscent of a first year halls of residence and you get the feeling that people who enjoy staying here are happy to live like slobs.
The room itself was ok: the bed was ok, the bathroom was ok, the shower was crap, the toilet blocked and when we informed the female owner (who eventually turned up) she told us that because it was a Sunday the plumber probably wouldn't be able to fix it that day, but we could always just use the loo in the dorm. Great, thanks.
The female (Mexican) was actually really helpful and friendly (toilet issue aside) and was clearly desperate for our approval (sorry, love). The American guy whose name escapes me, was downright rude, miserable, useless at his 'job' and made us feel utterly unwelcome. If you don't fancy drinking yourself into oblivion in the mucky common room and going into town every night to go clubbing, you're not going to get to know these people and will probably feel like a reject.
What astonishes me is that the location isn't even good either, so this place has absolutely NOTHING going for it (unless you count a grimy pool as a plus). It's £5 a night, I know, but for £6 a night I would have stayed ANYWHERE else.
Oh, and just to cap it all off, there was a huge thunderstorm on our second night (yes, we actually stayed TWO nights) and as our bedroom window was slightly ajar our whole room was completely flooded, soaking everything we owned. AND, something ran across our bed whilst we were sleeping, which we still to this day don't know what it was. I dread to think.
