“Unique, beautiful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Grand Bay is the perfect place to go if you are seeking rest and relaxation! The all inclusive option with Air Transat allowed us to completely unwind on our honeymoon! The staff are attentive and the location is great with Barra de Navidad just a quick water taxi ride across the lagoon. The food was good not fantastic but the location and the beautiful fortress like hotel more than makes up for it.

“Beyond our Expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

From the moment we arrived till our sad departure day, we experienced paradise at it's best. The hotel is exquisite, the staff are super friendly, the entertainment (Trish & Gord) in the bar/lounge was incredible, the food was spectacular, the ambience was stunning ... everything was beyond our expectations! We are so thankful Air Transat created affordable packages so we could experience one of the most memorable all-inclusive holidays in our life time. Grand Bay appeals to a more sophisticated crowd who appreciates decadence and excellent service. If you plan to stay at Grand Bay, it is a good idea to bring lots of tip dollars as it certainly pays off in helping the well-deserved staff who work so hard to make your stay most comfortable. The three nine hole golf courses are really well maintained and our caddy "Hector" was delightful and really helpful. There is a turn down service provided at night and our mini bar was always supplied with water, beer and soda. The maintenance staff responded within minutes (not Mexican minutes) to fix our built-in hairdryer. The lobby bar provides phenominal entertainment and is the perfect venue for meeting other hotel guests and dancing. If you prefer a quiet drink with your partner or friends you can sit on the wrap around balcony and enjoy the spectactular view of the ocean and marina. There was plenty of food at the breakfast buffet and we especially enjoyed the outdoor pool side lunch buffet. The professional spa staff enhanced our stay without a doubt. The ala carte restaurants offered 5 star dining to compliment this 5 star hotel. We'll be back.

“Delightful!”

Its hard to say what we loved most about our stay. The hotel is just stunning and the surroundings beautiful. My husband and I like to stay in hotels that have good size rooms and the room we had was large by any standard and beautifully furnished. The other thing is everyone is smiling, the staff, the guest, the locals - maybe we have just found paradise. We really enjoyed New Year's Eve at the La Terraza restaurant because of the amazing view. It was magical and the menu would have pleased any 'foodie'! Definitely worth exploring this area of Mexico - this is the real Mexico folks. I would chose this area over the more populated cookie stamp resorts anytime. I guess I should mention that I had a medical emergency because of an allergic reaction and the response was amazing. A hotel doctor showed up almost immediately and the genuine concern of the staff was touching.

Room Tip: A room with a view over the adjoining marina is nice. Nice size balcony.

“Best Place to Stay in Mexico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

I lived in Barra De Navidad for 3 years...we have a house in the canal. I was 14 when I moved there, Im an american. The Grand Bay Hotel is by far the nicest hotel you can stay at... there are several 3 star hotels as well bthat are nice and under $100 like Cabo Blanco, I used to work there. The biggest thing to pay attention to is the time of year your going....some months are colder and so youll want to stay at a hotel with good blankets in the rooms, hotter months find a room with ac or a fan. The biggest pitfall to rooms down there are lumpy beds and pillow so take a pillow and youll be good to go. If you are going to have it nice and quiet go Oct-Dec, if you want to party go during Semana Santa.....it will be packed so book in advance but there loootttssss to do and that the first few weeks of April. Also like 30-40 min away is Manzanillo which is a much bigger town so if your board go visit there for a day. Theres also so many beautiful beaches less then a 30 min drive from barra so dont be afraid to explore. Barra has surfing and you take a fishing boat out too.The disco music is from across the bay. Theres a restaurant that turns into a nightclub at night...the place is open to the water and sound travels. If people arent hearing it they didnt go when the club was open or it may be closed down now. The grand bay has a few different pools and it reminds me of the shining becuase its this huge hotel thats always deserted....theres a really beautiful house right next to it where the owner lives...he owns half of barra too. Anyways....they stamp their logo on the cigarette sand...its a nice hotel...they pay attention to detail. Theres a huge gorgeous golf course....i dont golf but its one of the prettiest ive ever seen and the landscaping at the hotel is phenomenal...mexico is pretty dry and the hotel makes it look like Hawaii with the lushness of the landscaping. Im planning on getting married at the Grand Bay. If you have questions you can email me asheebee30@hotmail.com.....i love my little barra and id be happy to help with questions.

“Lovely hotel”

Very spacious. We had a beautiful suite, which was an apartment with living room, bedroom, two bathrooms, and a tiny kitchen (no stove), balcony, and two TV's. Beautiful decor and amenities. Antonio's Restaurant was truly gourmet. Only negatives -- not enough variety for breakfast, and poor beach - slimy bottom and muddy water.
