“Cracking campsite”

On top of the hill above Durdle door, this camp site was the nicest we ever stayed in. I had paid more to go to a posh Cromer site and it wasn't anywhere near as good as this site. Even though we went on high summer there was plenty of room and everything was exceptionally clean and well presented. The site looked brand new apart from the mature hedges and trees but apparently it wasn't so it is a real feat that it looked so spotless with nothing broken or out of place, fantastically equipped toilets and showers with plug sockets to use hand dryers and lots of lights and mirrors and worksurfaces.and great ventilation too. The playground was great with chunky wooden had made swings galore frames and zip lines, slides and assault courses. The clothes washing facilities were professional standard and quick to use as well as cheap. The reception is manned 24 hours a day, the pub is great with good food and an interesting blend on the menu. All of this comes a poor second to the natural attractions- Durdle Door and man o war coves as well as lulworth and the heaths in between. We saw glow worms for the fist time ever near the barrow on top of the down next to the campsite and many rare flowers. Word of warning- pick your moment to go as if it had been windy and rainy then the site is very exposed! We will be going again and luckily we had fantastic weather

“Stayed here for 4 nights/5days in September 2011. Great camping experience!”

1st stay at this venue (camped in the wooded area) & would definitely go back again. Site is open from 1st March til 31st October. Had immaculate showers/toilets, dishwashing area & laundry room (all cleaned regularly). Whole site was very clean and tidy. Great ammenities; club house/bar, free freezer use in dishwashing area, well-stocked shop, cafe & takeaway (all reasonably priced), friendly staff. Located right by Durdle Door & Man of War Beaches - about 20mins walk down to both, longer coming back up! :) Brilliant location.

“Far too expensive for what it is”

Paid near £200 for a week of camping on a poorly grassed area without a hook up. The facilities are clean but ageing not up to standard of price, the shop is as expensive as to motorway service station with some of the sharp practices; the club is better value but nothing to write home about. The location is great but there are steep cliffs to scramble down before you get to the beach. The camping areas can be very crowded 6m between tents is impossible, the other pitches under trees with bird droppings are not ideal with a great deal of passing traffic. The camp is principally a static caravan site the play areas for children are away from the tents so children need to be supervised and the camp and the area is apt at extracting as much cash out of tourists for the minimum effort. I would suggest that Durdle Door and Lulworth are worth a day visit (free parking at entrance to the site on the road) but there are better value sites nearby with newer facilities.

“May go back for the views”

Stayed there on 20th August for 5 nights. Stayed on a premium pitch which was really spacious. It had electric hook up, fresh water and waste. Pitch was sloping but manageable in the tent.
Same gripes as most people: toilet/shower block was only cleaned once daily and as it is used by all the walkers that pass through Durdle Door was muddy in no time. Despite this the showers were hot and of good pressure and spacious. The pitches are not well maintained and the grass was long upon arrival (even after seeing the grass cut on other pitches, there didnt seem to be much difference). The crows were noisy but not an issue (slept through till 8 or 9 most mornings). The staff were fantastic in the shop, the bar and the reception and couldnt be more happy to help. The prices were good value (we'd just gone there from Hendra in Cornwall where it was more expensive) and the food was excellent, especially the chicken and leek pie and curries. The take away was also good value for money (£1.50 for 4 halves of garlic and cheese chiabatta).

The scenary around the park is stunning and attracts many walkers who make use of the facilities at the park. The walk down to the beach is almost treacherous! it is steep and mostly on loose gravel, not good if you suffer from vertigo. It took me and my 6 year old about 20-25 minutes to walk down there although we did go quite slowly. The beach at Man of War is mostly stones but being a cove, is well sheltered and the water very calm. We didnt go on the Durdle Door beach.

I would have given this park a very good rating if it had not been for the dirty showers/toilets. They could maybe take a leaf out of Hendra's book and have someone on duty all the time (or at least during the busy times) ensuring that each shower cubicle is clean and free from mud.

“Dirty bathrooms let this place down. Bathrooms are cleaned once daily with no mops to allow users to cleanup after themselves. ”

Dirty bathrooms let this place down.
Bathrooms are cleaned once daily with no mops to allow users to cleanup after themselves. Gross!!!
Otherwise this campsite would be quite good. Location is great. Pitches are by and large flat & spacious.
