“Puebla is my favorite and the hotel was pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 April 2010

We were on a tour, so not sure how much these hotels were. Hotel Gilfer was very nice, especially comparing to hotels we stayed in Oaxaca, Merida, Palenque, San Cristobal. First of all, the cleaning staff lady warned us that we had to wait "poquito" for water. She was very nice and friendly! The rooms were clean, hot water was working, the beds were comfortable... and each room was equipped with LG flatscreen TV with good remote control! I was very impressed by the TV! The concierge was very nice also. Overall, I was very happy with the room and I appreciate it!

“NIce Nice Nice so Nice”

One stayed here for two nights, and chose to have a room on the south side of the building (great view to a mountain and wide vista of the south of the city ) then the next night the north side of the building (close up view of the Cathedral and a partial view of the fountain in the main zokolo square)..The room was individually controlled air conditioned and had a large bed in a large room, and there was a desk and a bath tub and big bed. The sun came in the room in the moring and it was lovely..

The staff were very helpful there was no sence of Lazy Resentment, like there is at that place on the square; del somthing or other..I am a wheelchair user and there is a huge pile of steps out front which is why I did not select this hotel earlier in my two month stay in this city..However the staff helped me carry the wheelchair up the steps - I gave him five local currency units for the stairs and on another occasion, the fellow who in addition took everything up to my room -fifteen peso..I am going to stay here again when I come to Peubla. And I am going to stay later in Xlaxcala, where there is a nice swimming pool....

  • Liked — It is across the street from the elegant ancient building Restaurant of the department store
  • Disliked — steps out the front - no elevator from street level, staff carried everything (except me)

“good hotel, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2008

The hotel is located about a block away form the zocalo. It is very easy to walk there and it only takes 2 or 3 minutes. The zocalo has many places to eat and the main church. A few blocks away is a small market with arts and crafts. The hotel room was clean, pretty good sized and we had a great view of the church and the surrounding mountains. In the lobby they had two computers with internet access for no charge. They will also exchange US dollars for pesos but not travelers checks. Check in was easy but if you stay on a weekend it is a good idea to have reservations. The hotel was about $55 per night.
