“The best feature is its downtown location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This hotel has two great things: price an location. it is located downtown, one block away from Zocalo and the very good restaurants that surrounds the plaza.

We asked for a two bed's room and we got one twin and one full. That was a first. I lost the flip coin, so I have problems sleeping in the smaller bed.

The room has a big flat TV, but the cable service was spotty. I missed a movie's ending when it's lost the TV signal.

Puebla is a cold city, so I appreciated the always hot water in the shower but the towels were awful, they felt like they washed them like a thousand times.

For a business hotel, it is OK, but I'll recommend it only until they get better mattress.

“Cracked window mended with tape”

We asked for a room with a queen or king size bed. We were given a room with two twin beds meant for anyone over 6 feet tall. When we asked for other room we were told there were not others available. So we said be would have to find another hotel. They finally showed us a the suite at the top of the hotel. The bed was large enough, so we took it. The sheets were very worn, along with the stained bed spread. We put the extra blanket on the bed only to find that they too had not been clean. There where clumps on long blonde hairs bundled into the folded blankets. All the furnishings were worn and chipped. The doors clasps to closet and the security box were broken. The view was lovely from the balcony, but the wall were paper thin so that when a family moved into the adjacent room we could here evey word spoken until late into the night. Across the street one of the tenants kept a guard dog on the roof of his building who howled all night. The breakfast was minimal, I recommend eating elsewhere.

“Why why why ?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Oh my ... this place should be shut down for security reasons ... broken windows, erratic elevators, mold in the bathroom ... someone please call the municipal sanitary investigators ! There is absolutely no reason to choose to stay in this run down place.

“Comfortable stay at a prime location in Puebla”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

I stayed at Hotel Gilfer as part of a G Adventures tour (MMC). The property was well situated and close to the main Zocalo and to restaurants, shops, post offices etc. Check in was relatively quick and we got a hotel room with a big window and nice view overlooking the city. Rooms were clean and there was even a nice LCD tv for us. What I did find a bit strange was the way the bathroom was designed. The bathroom doesn't completely open up as it is obstructed by the toilet - most likely a space constraint. I liked the modern look of the hotel lobby and the internet stations provided to hotel guests on the main floor were actually quite fast for emailing and surfing the web.

“Great location, good service, decent rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We stayed here twice on a trip to Oaxaca. Well situated and clean hotel. Nice TV. Air conditioned and heated. Skip the new Thai restaurant in the hotel. Would stay here again.
