“Just OK --”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Yet another example of the continued inconsistent product delivery associated with the Holiday Inn Express brand. You never know what to expect until you actually walk through the door of this brand. Most of these properties are very good, but there are still those properties which don't measure up. This property is next door to the InterContinental, which also owns the Holiday Inn brands, & the IC is probably the best hotel in Puebla. It's a $4 taxi fare to the main Plaza, & the area around the hotel lack restaurants, etc. HI Express is "supposed" to appeal to business travelers coming to Puebla, but it's not really geared up to address the needs of the business traveler. American hotel chains that hype their product to business travelers, need to establish a consistent product standard, but they fail to do so, since the vast majority of hotels are independently owned, & USA corporate HQ seems to have little way of enforcing performance. The rates for this hotel are geared toward the higher end for business travelers, yet has no English language TV --- that doesn't bother me & I don't rate a hotel on the fact that they don't have English stations --- but a hotel that specifically promotes itself to American business traverlers, should, at the least, provide CNN in English. Only stayed 1 night, & moved to 1 of the numerous, nice downtown options. Paid 1/2 the price of the HI Express & got 5 English language stations, including CNN, a working business center, & other options. The morning breakfast was mediocre at best. None of the hot food items were hot --- only room temperature at best. 100% of the staff were polite & courteous & willing & eager to help, so my criticism is with management & corporate HQ, & not on-site personnel. For business travelers the Marriott is a far better choice, if you don't want to pay the higher rate at InterContinental. If you're not a business traveler, there are lots of better choices, with better locations, near the main Plaza. Hotel was spotlessly clean & in good condition.

“new,clean, fantastic value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Visiting Puebla for a wedding, this hotel was recommended by our hosts. It is not the sort of hotel that we would usually choose, as it is not in the city center, and does not have "character." But it had many benefits, the chief one being the low price for so many amenities:delicious full breakfast, nice fitness center, free wifi, friendly staff, and wonderful views.
The hotel's immediate neighborhood does not have much to offer. It is a 3 block walk to a Wal Mart and Italian Coffee Company. The little market down the block. La Negrita, sells snacks and cold drinks. We found ourselves taking a quick taxi ride to the Zocalo daily, as the city center has so much more to offer. Taxis are inexpensive and friendly.
Some things that could be better: Would have liked a room refrigerator, and the vending machines had very limited selection. Desk staff not as knowlegeable as they might be. When we asked about a coffee shop, they sent us to Juarez saying it was a short walk. It was about a 20 minute walk, through pedestrian unfriendly intersections (we found the Italian Coffee Company on our own, by accident). And when we had trouble confirming a flight, we ended up going to the concierge at the Intercontinental for help.

But after all the taxi rides, and other hassles, this was still a bargain.

Room Tip: Upper floors have the best views

“Best hotel so far”

I'm reasonably well-travelled (~20 countries), and while I normally stay in budget accomodations, I have stayed at many hotels in the best-western-hi-express-ibis tier and my experience at hi express puebla was without doubt the best experience i've had in all of my travels. the staff were unbelievably accomodating and extremely warm and friendly. the room had an amazing view of La Malinche and Puebla, everything was clean and quiet, and I slept wonderfully. The rates were also incredibly competitive.

Room Tip: It's a $4.50(usd) taxi ride to the zocalo(city center), which I highly recommend visiting. There...

“Nice, cheap, and very clean”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

I just stayed for one night but was very impressed. The room was large, clean and very comfortable. The bathroom and shower was nicely appointed.

Heck, there was free WiFi which is a rare thing to find in Mexico.

Comes with a free breakfast which I hear is good but didn't get to try.

Close to Puebla Centro

“Great location and excellent service!”

I stayed here for a couple of nights to attend a wedding across the street at the Intercontinental. Even though Holiday Inn is not as luxurios at the Intercontinental it doen not lack in service and quality. Rooms were very clean and provided de esentials: cable TV, free wifi, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioning, etc and they also had toobrush, razors and more things in case you forgot them (for free!). The price included a Mexican breakfast, coffee, milk, and juice. I would say that overall the hotel looks great, staff was helpful anytime we needed something and you cannot find a better location in Puebla. You are 5 mins away from Avenida Juarez where all the restaurants and bars are.
