LOCATION: In downtown, two blocks from main square. Easy to find and easy to move around.
SERVICE: It's just OK. Polite service but a little cold and distant. We had to ask several times for housekeeping items as glasses and soap. At the time of check-out someone is sent to the room, right in front of your eyes, to check if everything is ok, and you have to wait standing there until they confirm you didn't break or steal anything before making the charge... not very classy for a self-called boutique hotel.
FOOD: Breakfast was included in the rate and it was outstanding. There are a lot of choices in the menu and all of them are simply delicious, as well as the coffee. We ordered room service for diner once and quality and flavor of the dishes was very good as well.
ROOMS: They are all named as important women in history and art. Make sure you get a room in the second floor of the house, as the ones in the lower story are dark and noisy because they are directly on the main hallway and next to the restaurant. At the time of booking we asked specifically for a room on the upper level and they confirmed it, but at our arrival we were told that room wasn't ready yet and they offered us an upgrade to a Master Suite which had an akward distribution and a kinky decoration, located right in the hallway. We prefered to wait until our booked regular room was ready.
COMMON AREAS: It used to be an old tenement house and the owners made a great job with the restoration. There's a nice swimming pool which, unfortunately, was freezing cold, as well as the upper level jaccuzzi. There's a temazcal (an igloo-like prehispanic steam bath), but you have to pay a fee and make a reservation to use it as it comes with a previous ritual conducted by a therapist at the terrace.
OVERALL: This is a good hotel with the potential of being much better, but there's still a lot of room for improvement in terms of guest service and comfort. And please, be more descreet when checking the room before guest's departure, nice hotels don't do that kind of things!
Room Tip: Always upper level!!!!
