We chose to stay at the Aristos Hotel in Puebla, Mexico because it was listed as a high end hotel in the Lonely Planet Mexico travel guide and because the rates were very reasonable ($70 per night on the weekend). We were very disappointed with this hotel and cut our stay short in Puebla so we could return to a nicer hotel. The décor was outdated which appeared to be remodeled in the 1970s. There was no bottled water or remote in the room (we had to ask for a remote) which was standard in other high end hotels in Mexico. The curtains were dingy and appeared to need cleaning. There were rust stains on the ceiling and poor patchwork over seams in the ductwork. The bathroom was disgusting. The sink and faucet were painted. The tiles were bulging in areas and the grout was yellow. There were unpainted plaster patches on the ceiling. The shower-head sprayed water in all directions, making it impossible to take a shower without getting water all over the bathroom. The bathroom door would not close completely and was made of cheap hollow wood. The bathroom had two drains in the floor which emitted sewer gasses. There were urine stains on and around the toilet (not ours, they were there when we checked in).The mattress was old. The pillows were extremely lumpy and small, we asked for additional pillows and these were of the same quality. We did not have a bedspread the first night only a blanket. Only two towels and a bathmat were provided the first night no washcloths. The second night we only got one towel. We requested more towels but never received them.To access the pool you have to walk through the hotel lobby, down through a tunnel and up 3 flights of stairs to the roof on the next building. The lights were off and we decided for health reasons not to use the pool.On the positive side, the hotel is inexpensive centrally located and has a nice breakfast buffet. Live piano music is played in the lobby. It also has valet parking. If you are looking for convenience and value, you may be happy with this hotel however if you are looking for luxury this is not the hotel for you.
