I admit from reading the previous reviews that my expections were high for this hotel. After seeing other hotels in the city at varying prices I do agree that it is correctly priced- at about $40 before taxes, $47 after. However this was just too much of budget hotel for my mother and me. If price is your first concern this may be adequate for you. We found it depressing. Her mattress was fine but mine was a springy, bumpy mess. The tiles in the bathroom were new but in general the room was only adequately cleaned. We moved the next night to the Quinta Real- I think the most expensive place in town but so beautiful. We stayed here March 14, 2004 and greatly enjoyed Zacatecas.

Right in a perfect location, and relatively quiet. Rooms smallish, but very clean, lots of thick blankets for cool Zacatecas nights, comfortable double bed. Staff was very helpful & tolerant of weak Spanish. Doors lock at night, but staff is always right there to unlock front door. Restaurant onsite (acceptable food, fair rates, nice service, not much ambience). No room phones, no TV, but public Telmex phone right out front door. Short walk to anything in 'historic downtown', easy to find way back too! Nearby convenience stores/bakeries close early, so stock up duirng regular hours. Stayed last week of November 2002. Around ~MN$290.

The hotel is well situated. Most sites are in walking distance, and there are several good restaurants nearby. The room was clean, comfortable, and reasonably priced. The staff spoke little english, but they tried to be helful. Zacatecas is a beautful city.

We stayed at the Hotel Condessa several times in the early seventies, long before Howard Johnson's owned it. It's was a great place then and remains so today, as we discovered during our more recent stay in November 2002. The rooms may not be as extravagantly decorated as some of the newer hotels in Leon, but they are very clean and comfortable and the staff is genuinely friendly and highly professional. Several desk clerks and bellhops speak excellent English and they are always eager to help with whatever you may need. The restauant's food is very good and reasonably priced. Try the breakfast buffet at least once -- it's outstanding and quite a bargain! In the evenings, you can dine on the restaurant's patio, enjoy live music, and watch the people strolling by on the plaza -- just like thirty years ago.
