My husband and I and another couple opted to stay at the old Emporio Hotel in the historic section of Zacatecas so we could easily walk to the museums, etc. We made reservations at the restaurant at the Quinta Real, as we wanted to see the wonderfully interesting architecture of the building. At 8 PM the only person in the lobby was someone sweeping the floor. No one at reception desk, etc. He directed us to the restaurant. The hostess was gracious and the view of the former bull ring and the spire of the church in the background beautiful. The waiter was surly. A bad start. The rolls arrived and were cold, a sure sign of having been frozen. This was a signal to us to use caution in what we ordered for dinner. Two Caesar salads were ordered. The romaine lettuce leaves were the outside ones and old and the anchovies looked like they were alive - they were actually curled! Old. The salmon was swimming in butter. The spaghetti tasted and looked like it had come out of a can. The bill was brought to one of the wives. I asked the waiter to please give the bill to my husband. He handed it back to me. Bad idea. I speak Spanish so this was not a language problem. We didn't order dessert. If rolls can't be warm and the meal substandard - how good could the dessert be? As we exited through the lobby - five people were standing around a ladder. We went back into town and had a delicious Italian dinner.

Management needs to pay attention to not only the restaurant, but to hotel services. Glad we didn't stay there. Happy we stayed at the Emporio. I recommend the Quinta Real for a visit to the bar. Hopefully it's impossible to ruin a drink there.

This hotel is unique, there is nothing similar anywhere else; it has been built on the former bullfighting arena of Zacatecas, and it's very close to the city center.
To dinner in the restaurant that is in front of the arena is an incredible experience.

We did stay in this hotel operation for 2 nights during a weekend. While we made the reservation we were not told that during the same day a wedding would take place until early Sunday morning. Beside other short comings for a hotel marketing itself as 5 star deluxe property, we all felt this was a terrible short coming from the sales department.

The location is nice and yes I fully agree it is an architectural very impressive achievement, however in the end of the day, this is just one small standard which makes a 5 star hotel shine and work out well.

Friendliness of all employees was perfect more so while we did have some grounds of complains this never changed, I would say that their employees are the back bone of this property.

Food & Beverage served were good, however nothing special but for sure of good quality. The Guest rooms however were by far not what we did expect to find paying close to 300 USD a night. No bath rope, no safety box, TV did not work well and had no English speaking channels, internet did not work in the room, no slippers and no turn down service.

For a hotel of this kind, being part of a leading Mexican hotel collection I feel that upgrade in their Guest rooms, Guest Amenities as well as additional Guest services would make a huge difference and for sure would greatly benefit their Quality Standards. Further a general face lift could do wonders for the overall service and product image of this property.

For the time we can only rate what we saw and what we did expect to find, we did not find what we came for.

I you can afford the stay, you should experience this hotel at least once. Winner of World Architecture Prize and worth it for the building is amazing..... I will return time and again, for the food, the people and Zacatecas..... stunning, picturesque, Colonial splendor and amazing cultural offerings. We stayed at another local hotel for the first 3 days of our stay while we waited for our reservation to be available- this is our favorite hotel! Housekeeping spoiled us, the kitchen staff pleased and delighted us and the front desk couldn't have been more accommodating.... my whole family was delighted with our stay - again and as always.
